Library Posts August Calendar

Adamstown Area Library, 3000 N. Reading Road, Adamstown, will offer a variety of activities to the community. Registration is required for most programs. To learn more and to register, readers may call the library at 717-484-4200.

Several story time programs will be offered for young readers. An adult caregiver must accompany children to each program. Program activities will include stories, songs, rhymes, crafts, finger plays, and more. Preschool Story Time, for children ages 2 to 6, will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. The Lapsit Program will meet on Thursdays at 10 a.m. and is open to babies up to age 2. Toddler Story Time, for toddlers ages 2 to 3, will take place on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. Bedtime Stories will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14, and attendees are encouraged to wear their pajamas.

Story Time with Hank - Food! will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m. The program is designed for children through age 7.

Story Time with Tiny Miss Agriculture will be held on Wednesday, Aug 28, at 10 a.m. The program will include a walking field trip behind the library to see chickens.

A drop-in party will be offered on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 10 a.m. to noon. Visitors will explore the universe with StarLab portable planetarium, as well as more activities, games, snacks, and prizes at the library.

K'Nex Rail Lab: Bridge Building will be held on Monday, Aug. 5, at 10 a.m. Staff from the Railroad Museum of PA will use K'Nex building kits and other learning aids to explore the history and development of bridges.

Authors B.J. Bauers and M.J. Banks will talk about their books from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5. Both share the common theme of interesting people doing good and taking risks during challenging times.

National Night Out at Reamstown Park will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 6 p.m. The event will feature police cars, fire trucks, an ambulance, and a ride high in the sky in Reamstown's fire truck bucket. The event will offer games and prizes for children, sweet treats, plus hot dogs and other delicious food, all free of charge. Attendees may stop by and see Miss Jess at the Adamstown Area Library table for a free gift.

Technology Night will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 6:30 p.m. This monthly program is dedicated to helping patrons cope with the ever-changing world of computers, mobile devices, and technology.

The Genealogy Interest Group will meet on Thursday, Aug. 8, at 6:30 p.m. The group is open to older students and adults.

Pop art collage artist Michael Albert will visit the library with a hands-on workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 12. Participants will learn how to make their own eye-catching pop art collage. The program is open to school-age children through adults.

A 2019 Pennsylvania Retirement Update will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 10:30 a.m. The library's board of trustees will meet on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 6:30 p.m.

"Climate Change: Our Relationship with Nature" will be offered on Thursday, Aug. 15, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The program will include an informal talk by Dr. Spence Stober of Alvernia University, Reading, with time for questions and discussion afterward.

A walk-in craft program will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 16. Children may stop into the library anytime to make and take home a seasonal craft.

The fifth annual Hit the Links for the Library golf tournament will take place on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 1:30 p.m. The four-person scramble will be held at Manor Golf Club, 153 Bran Road, Sinking Spring. Proceeds will benefit the library. The cost per person includes golf and cart, driving range, greens fees, complimentary refreshments, a free future golf round, and dinner.

The Lancaster Science Factory will present "Chemistry: Sugar Molecule and Compound Builder" on Aug. 24 at 10 a.m. Students will learn about molecules like oxygen (O2) and chemical compounds like salt (NaCl) while building them out of candy and toothpicks.
