Kreutz Creek Library (KCL), 66 Walnut Springs Road, Hellam, has announced its schedule of upcoming programs for August. SummerQuest will feature activities and learning experiences for people of all ages. This year's theme is "A Universe of Stories." SummerQuest will conclude on Sunday, Aug. 18. This date will be the last day to record reading minutes.
Also on Aug. 18, participants who read for 800 minutes will receive free admission to a special York Revolution game. Friday, Aug. 23, will be the last day to pick up prizes at the library.
As part of SummerQuest, two public sky observations will take place at the York County Observatory in John Rudy Park, 400 Mundis Race Road, York. One will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 8 p.m. to midnight, with the other taking place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24. Astronomers will present to offer guidance. Attendees may bring their SummerQuest telescope giveaway drawing ticket. One telescope will be awarded at each event, and people must be present to win.
SummerQuest's Babies and Toddlers Story Time with Miss Felicia, for children from birth through 3 years old with a caregiver, will be offered on Monday, Aug. 5, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Registration is required.
SummerQuest's Babies and Toddlers Kindermusik, for children from birth through 3 years old with a caregiver, will be offered on Monday, Aug. 12, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Registration is required.
SummerQuest's Preschool Story Time with Miss Felicia, for children ages 3 to 5, will be offered on Friday, Aug. 2, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The program will include a story and a craft. Registration is required.
Sit, Stay, Read will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Aug. 6 and 20. Independent readers may bring a book or grab one from the library's shelves and read it to certified therapy dog Oliver during a 10-minute session. Registration is required.
Science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) activities are also part of SummerQuest.
Universe of Sounds: Music Play Patrol for children ages 3 to 9 will be offered on Thursday, Aug. 1, from 1 to 2 p.m. Students will explore the sounds of space using unique instruments and sound processors.
The LEGO Builders' Club will hold a meeting on Aug. 15 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. The club is open to children age 6 and up. Participants may take on a provided challenge or build something from their imagination.
SummerQuest will include two programs for tweens.
The Danger Club will host special guest Kevin Hartnett, the science operations manager for the Hubble Space Telescope Mission at NASA in Virginia, on Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Children and youths age 9 and up are invited to attend. Hartnett, who grew up in the York County area, will present images from his work with the Hubble Space Telescope Mission.
Library Squad, for youths ages 9 to 12, will be offered on Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Tweens will be able to shape library programming for their age group.
Programs for teenagers ages 13 to 18 will be offered as part of SummerQuest. On Thursdays, Aug. 1, 8, 15 and 22, from 4 to 6 p.m., Teen Time will allow teenagers to gather for hangout time and conversation at the library. Teen After Hours will take place on Friday, Aug. 23, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Teenagers may hang out, chat and play games after the library closes.
The Friends of Kreutz Creek Library Branch Support Group will meet on Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 5:30 p.m. The group welcomes fresh ideas and suggestions for activities to be held throughout the year.
The Knitters and Crocheters group meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. People of all skill levels are welcome, and group members will help others learn to knit or crochet. Attendees should bring needles and yarn. Knitters and crocheters may bring their current projects to work on. The group will meet from 6 to 7:45 p.m. on Aug. 6 and 20.
Tech Time, formerly the Tech Guru, will take place on Aug. 15 from 4 to 5:45 p.m. York County Libraries' new technology specialist will answer attendees' technology questions and showcase one or more of the library's digital resources that are available for use.
The Green Thumb Garden Club will host a program on Aug. 8 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Carol McDonald, Master Gardener, will present "Scented Geraniums, Uses and Propagation." The Garden Club offers a program on the second Thursday of each month.
The Friends will staff a stand at the Hellam Carnival from Wednesday to Saturday, Aug. 21 to 24, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. The Friends will serve peach sundaes featuring fresh Flinchbaugh's peaches and Mack's Ice Cream. Used books will be available for purchase, and the stand will also feature activities. Volunteers are needed for the event; interested individuals may visit or call the library.
