As of June 1, the Adamstown Area Library, 3000 N. Reading Road, no longer requires appointments, and the building is open to all visitors. Masks must be worn inside the library regardless of vaccination status. Curbside services will continue to be offered.
In addition, the library will offer both in-person and virtual events during the summer. Registration is required for most programs. Readers may view the full schedule and register for Zoom programs at http://www.adamstownarealibrary.org/events. For outdoor programs, participants should bring a mask and a blanket or lawn chair.
The library will be closed to the public until 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 17. The library will reopen from 4 to 8 p.m. that day.
A nature show for people of all ages will be held at the Nature Center at Refreshing Mountain, 455 Camp Road, Stevens, on Monday, June 14, at 10 a.m. Attendees are asked to park in Parking Lot B, follow yellow footprints to the office, turn left, and go down the paved road toward the pond.
Teen SummerZine will take place via Zoom from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, June 22, July 6 and 20, and Aug. 3 and 17. Writers ages 12 to 19 will work with three Pennsylvania authors. The finished SummerZine will be cataloged at all libraries in the county.
Assistance with Beanstack will be offered on Wednesday, June 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the library.
Adamstown Pool Story Time will be held on Thursday, June 10, at 1 p.m. A pool entrance fee or membership is required. Attendees should bring their library card.
Almost Perfect Crimes, for teens and adults, will take place on Tuesday, June 15, at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. Registrants will receive the Zoom link and the "Mini Murder Mystery Story." Additional clues and evidence will be revealed during the meeting.
Adult/Teen Take-and-Make craft kits will be available for pickup while supplies last starting Friday, June 18. The kits will include everything needed to complete a project except scissors and other common items.
Various programs will be held at Adamstown Grove. Adamstown "Groovy" Grove Story Time, for the entire family, will be offered on Fridays at 9:30, 10, and 10:30 a.m. Magician Ran'D Shine will perform a program for people of all ages on Tuesday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m. Animal Encounters, by Hands-on House Children's Museum, will be held on Wednesday, June 23, at 10 a.m. for children ages 3 to 10 with a responsible family member. Phredd: Ukulele One-Man Band will perform on Monday, June 28, at 1:30 p.m.
CHI St. Joseph Children's Health will host Hangouts with Hank on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. on Facebook. A video will be posted on Facebook to be viewed at any time.
Friday Frolic with Hank: Book Reviews will take place on Fridays at 1 p.m. on Facebook. Hank the French bulldog will present reviews of new children's books at the library.
Activities for people of all ages that will be available at any time are a themed scavenger hunt in the woods behind the library and a sidewalk safari on the ramp outside the library.
New items for Align Pregnancy Services will be collected in the library's vestibule through Wednesday, June 30. Items needed include hooded bath towels, burp cloths, and crib sheets in neutral colors; cloth diapers and covers; sheets for bassinets or playards; outfits in sizes from 3 to 6 months through 4T; sleep sacks; nursing pillows with covers; changing table pads; diaper odor-lock systems and refill bags; and infant car seat covers.
