Library Posts Event Calendar

Chester Springs Library, 1709 Art School Road, Chester Springs, will offer a variety of programs for local residents. For details and registration, readers may visit http://www.chesterspringslibrary.org or call the library 610-827-9212. Registration is not required for most programs.

Story time will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. On Thursdays, a Craft and Play Drop-in event, featuring STEM games and activities for children age 3 and older, will be held at 10:30 a.m.

A Candidate Meet and Greet will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 2. West Pikeland Township residents may speak with the candidates running for supervisor in the May primary election.

Makin' Music will be offered on Tuesday, May 7, at 11 a.m. The music and movement program is designed for children under age 5.

Also on May 7, Pennsylvania state Rep. Kristine Howard's satellite office will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A staff member will be available to answer questions and offer assistance. SEPTA Key Senior ID Card sign-ups will also be available for individuals age 65 and older with identification.

Children are invited to drop in to make a simple Mother's Day card and a tissue paper flower for their special person at the library's card-making station. The station will be open from Monday, May 6, through Friday, May 10, from 3 to 6 p.m.

On Saturdays in May at 10:15 a.m., the library will offer a Chester Springs Chess Academy. People will be able play chess with Downingtown High School Chess Club volunteers. People of all levels of experience are welcome. Participants should bring a board, if they have one. No registration is required.

A RobotC Programming with Vex for students in grades four to eight will take place on Sundays, May 5 to 19, from noon to 2 p.m. Knowledge of programming is highly suggested. Attendees are asked to register.

"My Neighbor Does What?" will be offered on Monday, May 13, at 6:30 p.m. The new series will highlight local people. David Hircock will give a photo presentation and discuss his travel and work in the most remote areas of the world. He is a human rights advocate and an expert in the areas of conserving biodiversity and the use of tradition and cultural knowledge. Light snacks will be provided.

"Longwood in Your Library: The Role of Seeds in Society and Culture" will be offered on Saturday, May 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. Attendees will examine the importance of seeds in today's world from global diets to creative arts, spirituality, and textiles. The program will include a hands-on opportunity through which people may learn seed saving techniques to begin creating a collection for future use. A limited number of passes to Longwood Gardens will be given away. Registration is required.
