The Eastern Lancaster County (ELANCO) Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, will offer a variety of programs and activities to the community in February. "Share the Love" is part of the library's effort to promote "Love Your Library" Month, an initiative to encourage residents to invest into their local libraries. From Saturdays, Feb. 1 to 29, community members can come in and help to pay a child's fine. The donor can choose an amount from the "Giving Tree" and bring it to the circulation desk. That amount will be allotted for a child's fine on his or her account. The child is selected randomly, and the donation is completely anonymous. This program is to help encourage children and their families to come back and use the library.
Readers' Roundtable Book Discussion for adults will be held on Monday, Feb. 3, at 6:30 p.m. in the downstairs board room. The title will be "The Lost Girls of Paris" by Pam Jenoff.
Two story time programs will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Preschool Story Time, designed for children ages 3 to 5, will be held each Tuesday. Parachute Play, open to children ages 1 to 3, will be held each Wednesday.
Two programs will be offered to youths in grades six through 12. Teen Tuesdays will be held on Tuesdays from 3 to 5 p.m. The Teen Art Club will be held on Monday, Feb. 10, at 6:30 p.m., and participants should bring their own sketchbook. Other supplies will be provided. The club will be creating with clay.
Play K - Kindergarten Readiness will be offered to preschoolers ages 3 to 6 on Thursdays from Feb. 6 to 20 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Preschoolers are invited to play and learn the needed skills for kindergarten success. This program is made available by the "Cruise Into Kindergarten" initiative through Pennsylvania Public Libraries.
Dungeons and Dragons Club will meet on Thursdays, Feb. 6 and 20, at 6:30 p.m. Participants age 10 and older who love to play this game or want to learn are invited.
Friday Frolic for Toddlers will be offered each Friday at 10:30 a.m. for walking toddlers ages 1 to 3. It will be followed by Stay and Play Friday for toddlers and preschoolers at 11 a.m.
Wee Build, for children up to age 6, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 10:30 a.m. Children will engage in hands-on playtime with developmentally appropriate toys. The library recently received materials from the Office of Commonwealth Libraries to implement a series of Wee Build programs.
The Lego Creation Club will meet on Monday, Feb. 10, at 6:30 p.m. to build creations out of Lego bricks to be displayed at the library. The family program is open to individuals age 3 and older.
Hooks and Needles: Yarn Crafting Club will also gather at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 10. Knitters and crocheters of all ages and skill levels, including beginners, are welcome to attend. Attendees should bring their own projects, tips and ideas to share.
All Things STEM for children age 3 and up will be held on Thursday, Feb. 13, from noon to 3 p.m. The ELANCO School District has an early dismissal, and Ms. Carla will have all sorts of STEM toys to explore on a drop-in basis.
A Paw Patrol Party will take place on Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. At this family event for people of all ages, attendees will enjoy crafts and games, and a New Holland police officer will read a story.
Craft and Granola for children age 3 and up will be offered on Monday, Feb. 17, from 10 a.m. to noon. The ELANCO School District will be closed, and there will be a simple craft and light breakfast snacks.
Explore to Learn - Valentine STEM for children in kindergarten through grade six will be held on Feb. 17 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Participants will explore science through Valentine-themed activities on a drop-in basis.
A Block Party - Preschool STEM Event will be offered at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, for children ages 3 to 6. Attendees will build with wooden blocks.
Zumba at the Library for people age 16 and up will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 10:30 a.m. This upbeat aerobic fitness program features movements inspired by various styles of Latin American dance. This class will be taught by certified instructor Carcy Vreeland. Beginners are welcome.
Game On! will take place on Monday, Feb. 24, at 6:30 p.m. Participants age 10 and older explore a different card or board game each month.
The 1, 2, 3 Play With Me! program for children ages 1 to 3 and their caregivers will be held on Wednesdays from Feb. 26 to March 25 at 6:30 p.m. and Thursdays from Feb. 27 to March 26 at 10:30 a.m. Each week will offer opportunities for children to play with developmentally appropriate toys in a play group atmosphere. Parents will have the chance to meet and ask questions of community experts in child development, nutrition and music.
