Library Posts June Schedule

Kreutz Creek Library (KCL), 66 Walnut Springs Road, Hellam, has announced its schedule of upcoming programs for June. SummerQuest will feature activities and learning experiences for people of all ages. This year's theme is "A Universe of Stories." On Saturday, June 1, children and teenagers may register for the SummerQuest and "GO York!" programs at any library or at one of the three SummerQuest kickoff events. Those registering should bring their library cards. The kickoff events will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at Dover Township Community Center, 3700 Davidsburg Road, Dover; Nixon Park on Nixon Drive; and Guthrie Memorial Library, 2 Library Place, Hanover. In advance of June 1, early registration will be available at http://www.summerquest.yorklibraries.org. SummerQuest will continue through Sunday, Aug. 18.

SummerQuest events for people of all ages will include the following.

June 26 will be Wacky Wednesday. From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., people of all ages may stop by the library to join in a wacky, hands-on activity.

Design Your Own T-Shirt will be offered on Tuesday, June 11, from 3 to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, June 12, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Attendees should bring a light-colored T-shirt that has been washed without fabric softener. Participants will color a design to use with the library's T-shirt machine.

A Worm Race program will take place on Thursday, June 13, from 1 to 2 p.m. The program will include a worm story time, worm races and an opportunity to taste a worm.

Local Heroes at the Library will occur on Friday, June 21, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Participants will listen to stories, check out the visitors' special work tools and make a craft.

Miss Felicia will present a story time featuring Helen Lester's stories of Tacky the Penguin on Monday, June 17, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. A Tacky the Penguin costume character will be present, and attendees may bring their cameras. No registration is required.

A Stuffed Animals "Lost in Space" Sleepover will be offered on Friday, June 28. Between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., children may drop off their favorite stuffed friend to spend the night at the library. Library staff and volunteers will be on hand to supervise during the animals' sleepover. On Saturday, June 29, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., children may return to the library for a slideshow presentation of the stuffed animals' adventure. Punch and cookies will be available afterward.

SummerQuest's Babies and Toddlers Story Times with Miss Felicia, for children from birth through 3 years old with a caregiver, will be offered on Monday, June 10, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Registration is required.

SummerQuest's Babies and Toddlers Kindermusik, for children from birth through 3 years old with a caregiver, will be offered on Monday, June 24, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Registration is required.

SummerQuest's Preschool Story Times with Miss Felicia, for children ages 3 to 5, will be offered on Fridays, June 14 and 28, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The program will include a story and a craft. Registration is required.

Science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) activities will also be included in SummerQuest.

The library will offer Play at Pen and Ink, for people age 10 and up, on Thursdays, June 13, 20, and 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. Robert Oughton, a local artist, will share a variety of techniques. Participants should bring something to draw on, something to draw with, a legal-size clipboard and samples of their current projects.

The Teen Cupcake Wars qualifying round will take place on June 20 from 4 to 6 p.m. Teenagers ages 13 to 18 will decorate provided cupcakes, and the best decoration will advance to the championship on Sunday, July 21, at the Red Lion Recreation Center. Registration is required for the qualifying round.

The library will host LEAP Into Science with Tara Tolton on Wednesday, June 19, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The program is for children ages 5 to 10.

The LEGO Builders' Club will hold a meeting on June 20 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. The club is open to children age 6 and up. Participants may take on a provided challenge or build something from their imagination.

SummerQuest will include two programs for tweens ages 9 to 12. The Danger Club will meet on Tuesday, June 11, from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Tweens may join Miss Jennifer for a new adventure every month. The Library Squad will meet on Tuesday, June 25, from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m., and attendees will shape library programming for their age group.

Programs for teenagers ages 13 to 18 will be offered as part of SummerQuest. Most Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m., Teen Time will allow teenagers to gather for hangout time and conversation at the library. All teenagers are welcome to participate in the program, which will be held on June 13 and 27. Teen After Hours will take place on Friday, June 28, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Teenagers may hang out, chat, and play games after the library closes.

The Friends of Kreutz Creek Library Branch Support Group will meet on Wednesday, June 26, at 5:30 p.m. The group welcomes fresh ideas and suggestions for activities to be held throughout the year.

The Knitters and Crocheters group meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. People of all skill levels are welcome, and group members will help others learn to knit or crochet. Attendees should bring needles and yarn. Knitters and crocheters may bring their current projects to work on and projects for show-and-tell. The group will meet from 6 to 7:45 p.m. on June 4 and 18.

The Green Thumb Garden Club will host a program on Thursday, June 13, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Melanie Markowski, NGC garden study consultant, will present "Plant a Peaceful Moonlight Garden." The Garden Club offers a program on the second Thursday of each month.

Tech Time, formerly the Tech Guru program, will have a new schedule in June. York County Libraries' new technology specialist hopes to begin visiting all York County Libraries' locations in June to help people with their technology questions. Additionally, each month the technology specialist will showcase at least one of the library's digital resources. The date and time of the program will be posted on Kreutz Creek Library's website and Facebook page.
