Library Posts Online Programs

The Eastern Lancaster County (ELANCO) Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, will remain closed until further notice. Its top priority is the safety and well-being of patrons and staff. Because of the current library closures, ELANCO Library has instituted many changes to its services. All in-person events have been canceled until further notice. No materials will be due before Tuesday, June 16. Patrons are asked to not return their items until the library reopens.

All events and services are provided online. All events and activities can be found by searching for "Eastern Lancaster County Library" on Facebook page or following the library on Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter.

All electronic resources, including the library's e-book and audiobook collections, will continue to be available at https://lancasterlibraries.overdrive.com/ and http://online.lancasterlibraries.org/.

Any patron whose library card does not work may email Heather at hsmith@elancolibrary.org.

Patrons without a library card may apply for one online. To request a library card, readers may contact the aforementioned email address to receive instructions on how to obtain a library card during the closure.

ELANCO Library aims to provide resources and tools for lifelong learners. It has compiled a list of things for persons of all ages to do or learn while they are at home. For more information, readers may visit http://www.elancolibrary.org/at-home-learning-resources.

I Can Read, for students in kindergarten and first grade, will be offered through Monday, June 1. Parents and caregivers may pick a book and video record the child reading the book. To submit a video or photo, readers may email cbarrows@elancolibrary.org and the library will feature videos on its Facebook page. Any photos submitted will be featured on the physical I Can Read board when the library reopens.

Get Caught Reading will continue for people of all ages through Sunday, May 31. May is Get Caught Reading Month. To celebrate, the library is collecting "caught reading" photos of community members. Readers may send a photo of themselves or a family member reading and the library will showcase them on its Instagram and Facebook pages. To submit photos, readers may contact Smith at the aforementioned email address.

Classics With Carla for people of all ages will meet at noon on Mondays and Wednesdays. Ms. Carla will post videos of herself reading classics. She is currently reading "Anne of Green Gables" by Lucy Maud Montgomery. The videos are available on the library's YouTube channel.

Ms. Carla's Corner will take place at 1 p.m. on Thursdays. The program is open to people of all ages but is geared for young children. Ms. Carla will create a new video with a different theme each week. Each video will have a worksheet or activity that can help participants keep busy at home.

Virtual Generation Pound with DoPurely for youths ages 5 to 13 will be offered on Thursday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m. Pound Pro and Generation Pound instructor Jessie J. will lead the free class. Generation Pound is a fitness class that includes two activities that teaches children about self-confidence, self-esteem and what it means to be a rock star. Zoom meeting information is available on the library's Facebook page. Participants may use drumsticks, spatulas, spoons, or anything like a drumstick.

Friday Frolic, geared for 1- to 3-year-olds, will take place on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. on Facebook Live with songs, stories, and fun. This will not be recorded.

Virtual Dungeons and Dragons Club for people age 10 and up will meet on Friday, May 15, from noon to 2 p.m. Participants will join in a virtual Dungeons and Dragons session via Zoom. For Zoom meeting information, readers may visit the library's Facebook page. Beginners are welcome. Readers may contact cbarrows@elancolibrary.org for help with building a character sheet.

The How to ... Series, which is geared for adults, will meet on Fridays at 6:30 p.m. Each week, participants will learn about a different online resource. Videos will be uploaded to YouTube.

Bedtime Stories With Ms. Heather for people of all ages will be offered on Saturday, May 16, at 7:30 p.m. Participants will join in for a livestream story time on the library's Facebook page as Ms. Heather reads some of her favorite picture books.

Preschool Storytime, which is geared for 3- to 6-year-olds, takes place on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Preschoolers are invited to enjoy themed books, songs, rhymes, or movement activities. The event is livestreamed from the library's Facebook page.
