Middletown Public Library has announced a variety of summer programs for people of all ages.
People of all ages are invited to sign up for the Summer Reading Program, which has the theme "Oceans of Possibilities." Separate categories are available for children, teens, and adults. To sign up for the program, stop by the library or visit https://middletownpubliclib.beanstack.org/reader365.
This year, grand prizes will include a Nintendo Switch Lite, Legos, and a mini drone. The prizes were provided by donations from local businesses and organizations, including the Frey Trust, the Middletown Kiwanis Club and the Hershey Company. The library has welcomed a new children and youth services librarian, Jessica Woolridge. The Middletown resident is already the youth services director at the Fredricksen Library and is now adding the Middletown library to her role.
This summer, Middletown Public Library has partnered with St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 121 N. Spring St., Middletown, and Middletown Area Recreation Alliance (MARA), an arm of the Middletown Area School District, to offer summer programs for children.
The library will offer free performances on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Church. Programs will include Bright Star Theatre, Talewise, and Grins and Grins. At the library, Tales With Tails will be offered on Tuesdays from 6 to 7 p.m., allowing children to read to therapy dogs and cats. On Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., kids may attend the STEM/Lego club. During the summer, the library will provide weekly arts and crafts projects that kids may complete on-site or at home.
For teens and adults, the library offers two online groups via Facebook. The Science Fiction Book Club has 9,000 members from around the world and reads and discusses science fiction literature; to learn more, visit http://www.facebook.com/groups/sciencefictionbookclub. The Star Trek Rewatch group watches and discusses classic and current Star Trek series and movies; more details are available at http://www.facebook.com/groups/StarTrekRewatch.
Visitors to the library are invited to check out the "Stranger Things" movie poster, where they can become a member of the cast. They may complete the Book Face challenge by finding a book with a face on the cover and taking a picture of themselves holding the book up to their face. They may also vote for their favorite fish by donating coins to the library.
