New Cumberland Public Library, 1 Benjamin Plaza, New Cumberland, will offer a variety of programs and activities to the community. Programs are free and open to the public, unless stated otherwise.

Ruth's Mystery Discussion Group will meet on Thursday, Sept. 5, from 10:15 a.m. to noon in the meeting room to discuss gardening or crafts mysteries. A reading list is available at meetings.

Crochet Night will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 5 in the meeting room on the second floor. Open to all skill levels, the program involves participants bringing their latest crochet project or learning to create a dishcloth.

The Friends of the New Cumberland Public Library will hold preowned book sales from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays, Sept. 7 and 21, in Foundation House, located across the shared parking lot. All proceeds will benefit the library.

The Book Review Program will feature a discussion of "Arrow Maker" by Roy F. Chandler by Bruce Darney from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, in Foundation House. Light refreshments will be served.

The Monday Great Books Discussion Group will meet on Monday, Sept. 16, in the dining room from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The group will discuss "House of Mirth" by Edith Wharton. For details, readers may call Ethel Bitterman at 717-938-1590 and Joan Short at 717-938-3494.

The Wednesday Great Books Discussion Group will meet on Wednesdays, Sept. 11 and 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the library meeting room. The group is using "Great Conversations 1" and "Modern American Poetry." The group will discuss "American Dialogue" by Joseph J. Ellis on Sept. 11. On Sept. 25, "The Epic of Gilgamesh" and Walt Whitman's "Song of Myself" and "To a Stranger" will be the topic. For details, readers may call Dan Tepsic at 717-774-0719.

Adult Fall Craft will be offered on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 6:30 p.m. in the second-floor meeting room. Participants will create a pumpkin out of a paperback book. All supplies will be provided.

The Friends of the New Cumberland Public Library will present their cultural program on Sunday, Sept. 22, in the Foundation House from 3 to 4 p.m. Dr. Douglas Morris will present "Pete Seeger's 100th Birthday." Morris and other musicians will perform Seeger's songs.

The library will host a booth at the New Cumberland Old Towne Association's 34th annual Apple Festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, in New Cumberland Borough Park. Children are invited to stop by to spin the wheel for prizes.

A fall story time series will be offered and will include stories, rhymes, music, and more. All children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Storytime and More! will be held on Mondays, Sept. 9 to Oct. 7, at 10:30 a.m. and is open to children ages 2 to 5. Book Babies Storytime, open to children ages 6 to 24 months, will be held on Tuesdays, Sept. 10 to Oct. 8, at 11:15 a.m. 123 Library! Family Storytime will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Mondays, Sept. 9 to Oct. 7, for children ages 2 to 6.

Explore More With Your Library Card! will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 17, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Visitors will learn about the free resources available through the library for preschoolers and early elementary students from 6:30 to 7 p.m. and for upper elementary school through middle school students from 7 to 7:30 p.m. No registration is required for this drop-in event.
