Library Posts Stroke Information Program

In recognition of Stroke Awareness Month, May, Milanof-Schock Library will host a program called Stroke Awareness and Understanding on Monday, May 17, at 1 p.m. The library is located at 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy.

Registration is required and can be accomplished by calling the library or signing up on the calendar page at http://www.mslibrary.org. The program is free and open to the public.

A stroke is a medical emergency needing prompt treatment. Kathy Morrison will speak about warning signs and symptoms of stroke, why stroke incidence has increased by over 40% in young adults over the past 10 years, who is most at risk for stroke, strategies for prevention, the latest guidelines regarding blood pressure management and aspirin therapy, and treatment options.

Morrison is a nurse who most recently served as stroke program manager for the Pennsylvania State Hershey Medical Center. She continues to serve on The Joint Commission Stroke Certification Technical Advisory Panel and is a Fellow of the American Heart Association. Morrison's published works have appeared in nursing journals and neuroscience course curricula. She is a nationally renowned educator and speaker on stroke-related topics and is a recipient of the Pennsylvania State Nightingale Award for Clinical Nursing.
