Library Posts Summer Activities

The Strasburg-Heisler Library has announced its annual Summer Reading Program, which this year has the theme "Oceans of Possibilities."

Children from birth through age 18 can register using the Beanstack app on a computer or smartphone. Beanstack will help participants to keep track of the amount of time or number of pages each child has read. As children progress, they can earn digital badges, and once they compete their requirements, they can claim their physical prizes at the library.

Hundreds of new items are available to borrow for free with a library card. Along with new books for people of all ages, the library has games and puzzles, movies, TV series, ukuleles, bells, STEM and art kits, American Girl dolls, Explore the Outdoor bags, and a pair of binoculars through which the user can see the craters on the moon.

Programs this summer will feature a variety of activities and special guests, including live creatures from the Center for Aquatic Sciences, the Lancaster County Parks Department Environmental Center and Forgotten Friends Reptile Sanctuary. Library patrons may participate in a story time with Miss Wendy and her puppet friends, play an African djembe with drummer Tammi Hessen, create art with Mr. Jeremy from Poiema Visual Arts, learn to make a stop-motion video, build with Lego bricks, laugh along with KooKoo the Cartoon Magician, and enjoy a science show from Talewise Storytelling.

The library is fully open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The digital catalog of ebooks and audiobooks is available 24/7 by downloading the Libby app.

All programs are posted on the calendar at http://www.strasburglibrary.org. The programs are free to attend, but registration is required. To register, visit the aforementioned website or or call the library at 717-687-8969.
