Library Will Offer Youth Programs

Quarryville Library, 357 Buck Road, Quarryville, will offer a variety of programs and activities throughout July for children, youths and their families. The Wonderful World of Words will be offered on Thursday, Aug. 1, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. This is a summer program for 9- to 11-year-olds who are aspiring writers or poets or who just want to learn some new words. A local educator will lead activities for fun and for vocabulary enrichment. Registration is required.

"The Spirit of Lindbergh" will be presented for people age 7 and up on Aug. 1 from 2 to 3 p.m. Neill Hartley will portray Charles Lindbergh.

Family Movie Night will be held on Aug. 1 at 6 p.m. The library will show a free G- or PG-rated movie and serve popcorn. People of all ages are welcome. The program is held on the first Thursday of every month.

Kids' Parachute Challenge for children ages 7 to 12 will be held on Fridays, Aug. 2 and 9, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. It will feature parachute games and activities.

Teen-led clay and drama workshops for children age 10 and up will continue on Aug. 2 and 9 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Each meeting will last 90 minutes; children will learn techniques of working with clay and have the opportunity to display their product and perform in front of others. Registration is required for the summer session. A capstone event will be held on Aug. 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Teen Anime for youths age 13 and up will take place on Aug. 2 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Participants will watch anime, eat snacks and socialize. The anime will have a PG, PG-13 or TV-14 rating.

STEM Saturday for children ages 8 to 12 will take place on Saturdays, Aug. 3 and 10, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The monthly series of programs focuses on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Registration is requested, as space is limited.

Preschool Meet-Up will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon each Tuesday. The casual gathering is open to children ages 3 to 5 and their caregivers. The program will meet in the Early Literacy Lab. Older and younger siblings are welcome.

Summer Lego Club willl meet from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7. Attendees will build creations to be displayed in the library. People of all ages are welcome, but the program is best for those age 5 and up. Children under 3 should be closely monitored by a responsible adult.

On Thursdays, Aug. 8 and 22, Parachute Games will be held from 10:45 to 11:15 a.m. and will provide songs, rhymes and games for children ages 3 to 6 and their caregivers. Parachute Play, for children ages 1 to 3 and their caregivers, will take place on Aug. 22 from 10 to 10:30 a.m.

"Mighty Animals That Migrate" will be offered on Aug. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. A representative from the Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will present this program.

Wee Readers, a family story time, will include a mix of stories, crafts, songs and activities. The program will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Fridays, Aug. 9 and 23. The program is open to children ages 1 to 5 and their caregivers.

Saturday, Aug. 10, is the last day to turn in Summer Reading Program forms for prizes.

The Teen Dungeons and Dragons Club will meet on Saturdays, Aug. 10 and 24, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. This club meets twice monthly.

On Wednesday, Aug. 14, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., a new Summer Sampler Toddler program, "The Young and the Restless," will be offered for children ages 18 months to 3 years with a caregiver. Other family members are welcome, as well. Participants will build literacy skills while having fun with books, rhymes, felt boards, puppets, dancing and crafts.

Toddler Meet-Up will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays, Aug. 14, 21 and 28. The casual gathering is open to children ages 1 to 3 and their caregivers. The program will meet in the Early Literacy Lab. Older siblings are welcome.

Crafts in the Middle for those in grades six to nine will meet on Aug. 14 from 2 to 3 p.m.

Teen Board Games for those ages 12 to 19 will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Attendees may bring their favorite board games to share with the group.

Mini Science, appropriate for children entering kindergarten through grade two with a responsible adult, will take place from 11 a.m. to noon on Aug. 21. The program will include STEM games, activities and projects. Registration is requested.
