Library To Offer Youth Programs

Quarryville Library, 357 Buck Road, Quarryville, will offer a variety of programs and activities throughout October for children, youths and their families. Pre-K Meet-Up will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays, Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. The casual gathering is open to children ages 3 to 5 and their caregivers. The program will meet in the Early Literacy Lab. Older and younger siblings are welcome.

Toddler Meet-Up will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Oct. 2. The casual gathering is open to children ages 1 to 3 and their caregivers. The program will meet in the Early Literacy Lab. Older siblings are welcome.

Baby's First Story Time for children birth to 17 months with a caregiver will take place on Wednesdays, Oct. 2 and 9, from 1 to 2 p.m. Other family members are welcome. Registration is requested; walk-ins will be accommodated as space permits.

Family Movie Night will be held on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The library will show a free G- or PG-rated movie and serve popcorn. People of all ages are welcome. The program is sponsored by Coatesville Savings Bank..

Wee Readers, a family story time, will include a mix of stories, crafts, songs and activities. The program will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Fridays, Oct. 4 and 18. The program is open to young children and their caregivers.

The anime club for youths age 13 and up will take place on Oct. 4 at 4:30 p.m. Participants will watch anime, eat snacks and socialize. The anime will have a PG, PG-13 or TV-14 rating.

A new toddler program, The Young and Restless, is being offered from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Oct. 9. The gathering is open to children ages 18 months to 3 years and their caregivers. Activities will include books, rhymes, felt boards, puppets, dancing, and crafts.

On Thursdays, Oct. 10 and 24, Parachute Games will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. and will provide songs, rhymes and games for children ages 3 to 6 and their caregivers.

Lego and More Block Bonanza will be a new program offered on Oct. 10 from 6 to 7 p.m. Children ages 2 to 16 will build creations out of the library's collection of Lego bricks, wood blocks, castle blocks, Duplos and more. Family building is encouraged. Children under age 8 must be accompanied by a caregiver.

Sing! Sign! Story Time for children birth to 6 years with a caregiver will be offered on Friday, Oct. 11, from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Other family members are welcome. Stories and songs will be used to teach basic American Sign Language (ASL) baby signs to children and their grown-ups, a few signs at a time.

The Teen Dungeons and Dragons Club for those ages 12 to 19 will meet on Saturdays, Oct. 12 and 26, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. This club meets twice monthly.

On Wednesdays, Oct. 16, 23 and 30, from 10:30 to noon, the library will offer 1,2,3 ... Play With Me! parent/child workshops for children from birth to age 3 with a caregiver. Each week offers opportunities for children to play with developmentally appropriate toys in a play group setting and for parents to meet and question community experts in the areas of child development, speech and language, nutrition, play, movement, and music. Older and younger siblings are welcome. The topic of this month's workshops will be speech and language development

Snap Circuits beginner electronics programming will be offered on Thursday, Oct. 17, from 6 to 7 p.m. Participants will learn fundamental physical principles such as polarity, contact, current, series vs. parallel and short circuits, while "snapping" together experiments.

The Bookmobile will stop at the Pleasant Valley Store, 420 Sproul Road, Kirkwood, on Oct. 18 from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m.

On Saturday, Oct. 19, from 11 a.m. to noon will be You Be the Robot, an introduction to coding developed by the Lancaster Science Factory, The program is geared for children in kindergarten through grade two with an adult caregiver.

Open board game time for youths ages 12 to 19 will be held on Oct. 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendees may bring their favorite board games to share with the group.

The Teen Leadership Group will meet on Oct. 19 from 2 to 3 p.m. to plan, promote, and run programming for children and teenagers at the library. The group also recommends materials for purchase, including books, games and movies, and makes suggestions about new and existing services. Registration is not required, and snacks will be provided.

PA CareerLink Lancaster County will offer career counseling at the library on Oct. 22 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. To schedule a complimentary appointment, readers may call 717-509-5613, ext. 629.

Pumpkin Night for young children will be held on Oct. 31. Attendees may drop in anytime from 6 to 7:30 p.m. to walk the pumpkin trail through various areas of the library.
