Adamstown Area Library, 3000 N. Reading Road, Adamstown, will offer a variety of activities to the community. Registration is required for most programs. To learn more and to register, readers may call the library at 717-484-4200.
The library will be close for Independence Day on Thursday, July 4.
Several story time programs will be offered for young readers. An adult caregiver must accompany children to each program. Program activities will include stories, songs, rhymes, crafts, finger plays, and more. Preschool Story Time, for children ages 2 to 6, will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. The Lapsit Program will meet on Thursdays at 10 a.m. and is open to babies up to age 2. Toddler Story Time, for toddlers ages 2 to 3, will take place on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. Bedtime Stories will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, and attendees are encouraged to wear their pajamas.
Monday Meander with Miss Jess will take place on Mondays, July 1 through July 22, at 12:30 p.m. Locations will be July 1 at Denver Park, July 8 at Schoeneck Park, July 15 at Chapel Gate, and July 22 at Adamstown Grove. Attendees are invited to arrive early for the Summer Lunch Program at noon. On July 8 and 15, the lunch program will take place at Main Street Park in Reinholds, and interested attendees will travel to the Monday Meander park location for the walk. In the case of rain, walks will take place on July 29 or Aug. 5.
Rocketing Reptiles by Forgotten Friends will take place on Monday, July 1, at 6:30 p.m. at Peace Church, 37 E. Swartzville Road, Denver. The interactive animal show for all ages will feature Jesse Rothacker and his lizards, turtles, alligators, and snakes. Attendees will explore the universe of reptiles. The show will include opportunities to volunteer in the show, touch real animal artifacts, and win prizes.
Hank's Sense-sational Story Time for children age 7 and under will be offered on Tuesday, July 2, at 10 a.m. Hank the Health Hero will help participants learn about their bodies as they look, listen, touch, and smell.
Technology Night will be offered on Wednesday, July 3, at 6:30 p.m. Library patrons may receive help with computers, mobile devices, and other technology.
Lancaster County Parks Department will present Planet Power for families on Wednesday, July 10, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 80 E. Main St., Adamstown. Attendees will learn about each planet in the solar system and make their own planet.
The library board of trustees will hold a meeting on June 10 at 6:30 p.m. The Genealogy Interest Group will be held on Thursday, July 11, at 6:30 p.m. and is open to older students and adults.
Family Yoga will be offered on Thursdays, July 11 and 25, at 11:30 a.m. in the Adamstown Grove for individuals of all ages. Attendees will explore breath, mindfulness, and stories told through yoga. Caregivers are required to stay and encouraged to participate.
Adamstown Area Library will host a job fair on Friday, July 12, from 3 to 5 p.m. Job seekers may speak directly to local employers and agencies, learn about current job openings, and apply for available jobs on the spot.
3-D Design for youths ages 12 to 18 will take place on Saturday, July 13, at 10 a.m. Participants will explore their creativity in 3-D with the Girl Scout STEM Mobile.
Making Sense of Cholesterol for adults will be offered on Monday, July 15, at 6:30 p.m. Attendees will learn about cholesterol and how to manage it. Tina Davis is a board-certified family nurse practitioner and clinical lipid (cholesterol) specialist who developed and managed the Heart Group's Preventive Cardiology & Apheresis Clinic for 15 years.
Miss Jess will be at the Adamstown YMCA Fun Fest at Adamstown Grove Tuesday, July 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. The event will include games, magic, face painting and other activities.
The Bookmobile will be at Denver Park on Thursday, July 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Local residents are invited to stop by.
American Girl: Luciana in Outer Space for girls age 6 to 12 will take place on July 18 at 1 p.m. The program will feature space-themed activities. Space is limited.
A Walk-In Craft program will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, July 19. Children may stop by the library anytime during the program to make and take home a seasonal craft. No registration is needed.
Miss Maggie will present A Universe of Songs, an interactive storytelling and musical program for people of all ages, on July 19 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
North Museum of Nature and Science will present Mission to the Moon for students in third through sixth grades, on Monday, July 22, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Participants will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the mission that landed the first astronauts on the moon through hands-on experiences, and they will explore the moon's surface in preparation for designing a lunar lander. This event will be messy.
Author Story Time will be held on Tuesday, July 23, at 10 a.m. Adam Altman will read and sign copies of his children's book "The Frog's Golden Water."
Phredd: Uklele One-Man Band will perform for people of all ages on Wednesday, July 24, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The 30- to 40-minute performance will include interaction, singing, hand motions, and creative play.
STEM: Where Does Our Water Go? for people of all ages will take place on Monday, July 29, at 10 a.m. West Cocalico Township will present an interactive and educational display on the impacts of storm water.
