The Summer Reading Club is underway at the Dauphin County Library System with online story times, book clubs and special educational programs planned for people of all ages, all summer long. To learn more and to register for this year's Summer Reading Club, readers may visit https://dcls.org/src. A Zoom link and instructions will be sent to participants before each program.
Mark DeRose will perform live in concert on Thursday, June 25, from 6 to 6:45 p.m. A local musician, DeRose will perform his interactive show for families with children of all ages over Zoom.
Adult programs continue to be available online through Zoom; the "Adult Programs at The Library" group, accessible through the "Dauphin County Library System" page on Facebook; or the library system's blog, "Beyond the Shelves," accessible at http://www.dcls.org/BeyondTheShelves. Armchair Traveler is posted on Mondays by 11 p.m. Participants will explore different destinations in a series of posts on the aforementioned blog. They will learn about history and culture, take virtual tours, and get book, movie, and music recommendations. Registration is not required.
Writer's Workshop meets on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. Viewers may visit the "Adult Programs at The Library" Facebook group each week for a new writing prompt inspired by the Summer Reading Program theme, "Imagine Your Story." Registration is not required.
Community Cafe: REACH Foundation, Tri-County OIC, and Pennsylvania Association for the Education of Young Children (AEYC) will be offered on Wednesday, June 24, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Attendees will learn about the services nonprofit and business organizations provide. Each presentation will end with a question-and-answer session.
Bookish Film and TV Discussion meets on Wednesdays at 2 p.m. This weekly discussion in the "Adult Programs at The Library" Facebook group offers recommendations of book-related movies and television shows in a variety of genres. Registration is not required.
Photography for Beginners will take place on Thursday, June 25, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Attendees will learn how take beautiful photos with professional photographer Pat Hassinger. They will learn a simple approach to photography that can be used with any camera, even a phone. Topics will include photo subject, setting, lighting, placement, and common pitfalls and tips to avoid them.
Mid-Day Getaway is posted to the "Adult Programs at The Library" Facebook group on Fridays by 2 p.m. Each week, the library will share a video created by library staff. Programs will include cooking tutorials, art demos, musical performances, and poetry recitations. Registration is not required.
