Library Programs Scheduled

Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, has posted its upcoming programming. Unless otherwise noted, all programs are free and require preregistration. The library will be closed for Independence Day on Thursday, July 4.

Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank will hold a community blood drive at the library on Saturday, July 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A number of programs for children, teenagers, and families are planned.

Miss Jan will offer Family Story Time at the East Donegal Township Municipal Building in Maytown on Monday, July 1, at 10:30 a.m. Activities will include stories, songs, and a craft based on a theme of the week.

For Lunch Bunch at noon on Tuesdays, July 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30, attendees age 8 and up may bring a lunch and the book they are currently reading. There will be a mystery guest.

Snorey Time Story Time will be offered on Tuesday, July 2, at 6 p.m. Attendees may wear pajamas and slippers.

A patriotic story time, which will take place on Wednesday, July 3, at 6 p.m., will feature an American celebration with flags. Participants are invited to wear red, white, and blue.

The costume character Pout-Pout Fish will visit the library on Monday, July 8, at 10:30 a.m. during story time with Miss Jan.

Lego Club, for people of all ages, will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9. Legos will be provided.

Sing, Shake, and Sway Story Time, set for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, will encourage children to interact and move to songs and stories.

"Earthly Reptiles" with Jesse Rothacker of Forgotten Friend Animal Sanctuary will visit the library on Thursday, July 11, at 10:30 a.m. This interactive animal show for families will feature live lizards, turtles, crocodiles, and snakes.

During STEM - CSI, set for 6 p.m. on Thursdays, July 11 and 18, children in grades three through six will engage in forensic study activities with Miss Jan and criminal investigator Detective Hosking of the Mount Joy Borough Police Department.

Fun Fort Friday will be held on Friday, July 12, at 5 p.m. Families may come to the library after hours and build a fort among the bookshelves. Attendees should bring their own blankets, and other items will be provided.

Wee Build Free Build, set for Saturday, July 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., will offer an opportunity to build with various materials.

Family Story Time will be offered on Monday, July 15, at 10:30 a.m. at the former First National Bank building, 100 Market St., Marietta. Families may enjoy stories, songs, and a craft based on a theme of the week.

A webinar about the historic moon landing will be offered on July 15 from 4 to 5 p.m., and families are invited to attend. The live webcast will recreate the Apollo 11 landing. Attendees will learn how this mission was executed by crew members and mission control in Houston.

Sensory Story Time will be offered for children ages 3 to 5 on Tuesday, July 16, at 10:30 a.m. Sensory Story Time is ideal for children who are differently abled, who may be on the autism spectrum, who have sensory processing issues, or who feel overwhelmed by noises or crowds. Following story time, children can engage in 30 minutes of monitored social play. Space is limited. Registration is required.

Fun Family Book Bingo has been set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16. Attendees are asked to bring a light snack to share.

Alien Story Time for families will be offered on Wednesday, July 17, at 10:30 a.m.

Phredd - Ukulele One-Man Band will present an interactive performance of songs, hand motions, and creative play for families on Thursday, July 18, at 10:30 a.m.

Art in the Park will take place outside, weather permitting, on Tuesday, July 23, at 1 p.m. Students age 7 and up will have the opportunity to create a piece of art using inspiration from a featured artist and media style.

Sing and Sign Story Time, during which basic American Sign Language is incorporated, will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24.

North Museum of Nature and Science will present "Mission to the Moon" on Thursday, July 25, at 10:30 a.m. Through hands-on experiences, students in third through sixth grades will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the mission that landed the first astronauts on the moon. Registration is required, and space is limited.

Crazy Cubes for children age 6 and up will be offered on Wednesday, July 31, at 10:30 a.m. Participants will roll the dice and create stories.

Read With Kirby will offer struggling readers an opportunity to practice reading aloud to Kirby, a Westie and certified therapy dog. Kirby will be available on Mondays at 6 p.m. Individuals should call Miss Jan to register.

Dark Order Teen Anime for teenagers age 13 and up will feature anime films. The next session will take place on Saturday, July 20, at 6 p.m.

A young adult life skills program called "Sew What?" will provide teenagers ages 13 to 19 with information on basic clothing repair. Registration is required for the program, which will be held on Friday, July 26, at 1 p.m.

The library has also announced its slate of programs for adults.

The library is offering a reading activity for adults throughout the summer, ending on Saturday, Aug. 31. Participants may complete a game card and enter it to be eligible for a prize drawing.

Closely Knit, a group for people who are interested in knitting and crocheting, will meet on Mondays, July 8 and 22, at 1 p.m. No registration is necessary.

The Book Discussion Group - The Classics will meet on Monday, July 15, at 10:30 a.m. to discuss "One of Ours" by Willa Cather.

A free program for adults on the Hubble Space Telescope will be held on Wednesday, July 17, at 6:30 p.m. Attendees will learn about the telescope's history and future and view 30 or more of the best photographs taken by the telescope. The program will be presented by Ann Strauss, a naturalist from the Lancaster Department of Parks and Recreation. This program is also suitable for teenagers and older children who are able to sit through a presentation. Registration is required.

The Joyful Stitchers Cross-Stitch Club will meet on Saturday, July 20, from 9:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Attendees should bring their supplies.

The Writers' Circle, which is led by facilitator Ingrid Andersen, will meet on Monday, July 22, at 6 p.m.

Choose Your Craft - Crafty Free Play will be held on July 22 at 6 p.m. All crafters are invited to bring their craft to the library to work and socialize with other crafters. The library will provide space, tables, and chairs. Registration is limited to 20 people.

The Book Discussion Group - Lit Lovers will meet on Tuesday, July 23, at 6:30 p.m. to discuss "A Fine Balance" by Rohinton Mistry.
