The Eastern Lancaster County (ELANCO) Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, will offer a variety of programs and activities to the community. Most events are free but require advance registration. The library will be closed for Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 2.
Preschool Storytime for children ages 3 to 5 will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, Sept. 3, 10, 17 and 24. The program will feature themed books, songs, rhymes, movement activities, or a craft while building language and literacy skills. Friday Frolic for Toddlers will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Fridays, Sept. 6, 13, 20 and 27, and is open to walking toddlers ages 1 to 3. It will be followed by Stay and Play Friday at 11 a.m.
Several programs will be offered to teenagers in grades six to 12. Teen Tuesdays will meet from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays. Teen Art Club will meet on Monday, Sept. 23, at 6:30 p.m. Participants may bring their own sketchbook, but supplies will be provided. This month, teenagers will paint with watercolors. Anime Club will meet on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 3 p.m. Attendees will watch age-appropriate anime, including television shows or movies. Snacks will be provided.
Parachute Play for children ages 1 to 3 with a caregiver will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, Sept. 4, 11, 18 and 25. Participants will play with parachutes, sing songs, develop gross motor skills, learn to work together, engage in imaginative play, develop spatial awareness and express themselves.
1, 2, 3 Play with Me! will be offered on Wednesdays, Sept. 4, 11, 18 and 25, at 6:30 p.m. and on Thursdays, Sept. 5, 12, 19 and 26, at 10:30 a.m. The program is open to children ages 1 to 3 and their caregivers.
Duplo Free Play will be offered from 3 to 5 p.m. on Thursdays, Sept. 5, 12, 19 and 26, for children ages 1 to 5 p.m. Children are invited to drop in for a free building time with Duplos and Mega Bloks.
Dungeons and Dragons Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 5 and 19. The activity is open to children age 10 and older. Food will be provided.
Therapy dogs will visit the library on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 10:30 a.m. Children are invited to improve their reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a therapy dog.
One-on-One Tech Help will be available from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, Sept. 7 and 21. Free technology help will be offered with any device, such as an electronic tablet or a computer. Registration is encouraged. Walk-ins are welcome, but are not guaranteed an appointment.
The Lego Creation Club will gather on Monday, Sept. 9, at 6:30 p.m. and is open to participants age 3 and older. Hooks and Needles: Yarn Crafting Club will be held on Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m. The club is open to all knitters and crocheters in all skill levels.
Readers' Roundtable Book Discussion will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 9 for adults. Participants will discuss "The Traitor's Wife: The Woman Behind Benedict Arnold and the Plan to Betray America" by Allison Pataki.
Tea Rex Party for families will be offered on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to dress up as dinosaurs for games, tea, crafts, and more.
Safety Town for families take place on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 10 a.m. to noon. The library parking lot will become a miniature road course where children can learn early literacy skills and understand some common traffic signs. They will also learn about bicycle safety. Participants should bring their own bike, scooter, or tricycle.
Zumba at the Library for people age 16 and up is slated for Sept. 14 at 10:30 a.m. Zumba is an aerobic fitness program featuring movements inspired by various styles of Latin American dance. The class will be taught by Carcy Vreeland. People at any level are welcome. Participants are required sign a liability release form.
Explore to Learn - Transportation for students in kindergarten through sixth grade will be offered on Monday, Sept. 16, at 6:30 p.m. Explore to Learn is a series of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs. Attendees will explore ramps with cars, create paper airplanes, and have a boat race.
Block Party, a preschool STEM event for children ages 3 to 6, will be held on Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m.
