Library Programs Slated

Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Ave., Hershey, will offer a variety of programs for people of all ages. Registration is requested unless noted otherwise. On Wednesday, May 1, from 4 to 4:45 p.m. the library will offer Lego Club for children age 6 and older. Participants will build to a challenge set by children's librarian Rita Smith. Register is required.

Dungeons and Dragons, a tabletop fantasy role-playing game, will be played on Fridays, May 10, 17, 24 and 31, from 3 to 5 p.m. The program is open to high school teenagers. Registration is required.

A USCF Rated Chess Tournament will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 4. The event is open to chess players of all ages and skill levels. Sections will be based on rating and age. Young players and players new to rated chess tournaments are welcome and encouraged to participate. Registration is required.

On Sunday, May 5, from 2 to 3:45 p.m., Meghan Winslow will help children design a Mother's Day art project. Preregistration is required. To register, reader mays select the age group. Forty-five-minute sessions will be offered, with start times based on age group.

Children's Summer Quest Preview will take place on Monday, May 6, from 11 a.m. to noon. Families with children ages 2 to 5 are welcome to preview the library's summer programming with an hour of center-based play. The theme will be "A Universe of Stories."

Play Days for Families will be offered from 10 to 11 a.m. on Fridays, May 3 and 17. Families with children ages 2 to 5 will enjoy an hour of free play at various stations that encourage learning through play. Registration is required.

A Fairy Garden Class will take place on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants will be provided with all the necessary components. There is a fee that includes a 10-inch container, plants, and all materials. Children and youths ages 5 to 15 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.

Second Saturday will feature theme-based activities and a story for families presented by Jackie Sisco on May 11, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

A Succulent Planter Workshop will be offered on May 11 at 2 p.m. It is open to adults. Instructor Kim Bailor will demonstrate how to create a hanging macrame planter with four healthy succulents, stone, moss, and potting soil. Bailor will also provide instructions on how to care for the planter. Registration is available at http://www.eventbrite.com. There is a fee for the class.

The library will be closed on Sunday, May 12, for Mother's Day.

Richard LaMotte will share his knowledge of sea glass and provide insight into the art of identifying unique shards on Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m.

The Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank will hold a blood drive on Monday, May 20, from 3 to 7 p.m. The Blood Bank's blood donation vehicle will be parked in the library's parking lot. Participants are asked to bring identication with them.

Tech Tear Down will take place on Wednesday, May 29, at 3 p.m. Attendees take apart some of the library's old technology bit by bit to see how parts come together to make a whole. Teenagers in high school are invited to register online beginning on May 1.

The library needs a book group facilitator. Book groups will begin meeting in early September and will run through May 2020. Interested persons may contact Julie Brnik at jebrnik@derrytownship.org or call the library.
