Library Schedules Programs

Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Ave., Hershey, will offer a variety of programs for people of all ages. Registration is requested unless noted otherwise. For more details on events and registration, readers may visit http://www.hersheylibrary.org or call the library at 717-533-6555.

The library will celebrate National Library Week from Sunday, April 7, to Saturday, April 13, as part of an event observed in libraries across the nation. This year's theme will be "Libraries = Strong Communities." Philanthropist Melinda Gates will serve as honorary chair of National Library Week.

The library will presents the Friends' National Guest Author Visit Program on April 7 at 2 p.m. Alice Hoffman, author of books including "Practical Magic," and Alice's cousin Lisa Hoffman, a knitwear designer and knitting teacher, will talk about their creative work. The event will include book signings.

On Sunday, April 14, at 2 p.m., a Friends' children's program, Yah-Oh-Way, will be presented by the American Thunderbird Dancers. Through song and dance, children in kindergarden through grade five will learn about traditions of tribes that inhabited North America before Europeans arrived. Registration is not required.

Adult Story Time with Emily Fortney on Saturday, April 6, at 2 p.m. will include a reading of classic tales and short stories a grown-up audience for people age 18 and up. Registration is not required.

Students of Penn State College of Medicine will present Healthy Sun Habits on Wednesday, April 10, at 7 p.m.

Writing a Book and Where to Begin will be offered on April 13 at 1 p.m. Dr. John Benedict will share his experience.

On Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m., the library will welcome author Thomas F. Brier Jr., author of "While Reason Slept." The event will include a discussion of an optimistic solution and a presentation for a vision of a rational Republic. Books will be sold and signed.

The library will offer Tech Pop-Up Help from 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursdays, April 4, 11, 18, and 25, for attendees who need help to use a mobile device or access e-books or who want simple computer navigation assistance. No appointment is needed.

The seventh annual Friends Student Film Festival will be held on Saturday, April 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. to showcase and recognize local student filmmakers' creative work. Registration is not required. All are welcome.

Programs for tweens and teenagers will include Dungeons and Dragons, In the Middle, Bullet Journaling, Girls Who Code, and Chess Club. Programs for young children will include Lego Club, Art in Science, and Story Time With Teens. The library also offers its regular early childhood literacy programs, Books and Babies and 1, 2, Whee! Also offered is Second Saturday, the library's once-a-month family program offering themed activities and stories.

Adult Enrichment Classes will include egg decorating at 10 a.m. on April 6,and card making at 6 p.m. on April 4 and 18.

Sex Trafficking: It's Closer to Home Thank You Think will be offered on Sunday, April 28, at 2 p.m. Local author Sherry Knowlton will discuss sex trafficking and other forms of human trafficking that exist in southcentral Pennsylvania, as well how to recognize signs of trafficking and how to help. Knowlton will share some of her research on the topic and answer questions. Books will be sold and signed.
