Library Schedules Programs

Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, has posted its upcoming programs. Unless otherwise noted, all programs are free and require registration by visiting http://www.mslibrary.org or calling 717-653-1510.

The library is open Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Gently used books and media can be donated to the self-service shed behind the library on Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

All children and family programs will be in-person only and outside when possible.

During Story Time, set for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout October, families may enjoy stories, songs, and a craft based on a theme of the week.

Home School Art Class, set for Thursday, Oct. 7, at 1:30 p.m., invites kids age 7 and up to create theme-inspired art based upon the works of a particular artist.

Fun Fort Friday, set for Friday, Oct. 8, from 5 to 6 p.m., will give families an opportunity to build a reading fort among the shelves and tables. They should bring blankets and sheets, a flashlight, and a beverage.

Children ages 4 and 5 are invited to Preschool Super Science at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12, where Miss Jan will lead science-based activities that introduce elements of science.

During the Lego Challenge on Oct. 12 at 6 p.m., participating families will be given a box of Legos to build around the night's theme.

Homeschool STEM, scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 14, at 1:30 p.m., will give children age 7 and up the opportunity to learn about a STEM element and use provided materials to do a project.

Fun Family Bingo, for people age 7 and up, will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 6 p.m.

Homeschool History Mystery, scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 28, at 1:30 p.m., will offer children age 7 and up the opportunity to learn about a mystery related to a real event in history.

As part of an ongoing puzzle swap at the library, patrons are invited to stop by the display, where they may take a puzzle and bring a puzzle.

Reading challenges will be offered for adults; they may pick up entry forms at the library, and one winner will be chosen each month. Through Friday, Oct. 15, adults may read or listen to a book that reminds them of autumn; from Saturday, Oct. 16, to Sunday, Oct. 31, they may read or listen to a book about a classic monster.

A game night for adults, focused on board games and card games, will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m. A variety of games will be available.

Interest groups for adults include Closely Knit, for knitters and crocheters, on Mondays, Oct. 11 and 25, at 1 p.m., with no registration necessary; the Friends group, which welcomes new members, on Oct. 11 at 6 p.m.; Joyful Stitchers Cross-Stitch Club on Saturday, Oct. 16, from 9:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.; and A Gathering of Artists Club on Wednesday, Oct. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. Also, the Northwest Book Club will discuss "Before We Were Yours" by Lisa Windgate on Oct. 13 at 6 p.m., and the Lit Lovers Book Club will discuss "Witches: Salem 1692" by Stacy Schiff on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 6:30 p.m.

Make-It Monday - Cardmaking With Kathy B., set for Monday, Oct. 25, at 6 p.m., will focus on making cards to give to loved ones on Christmas or any holiday. Kathy Bisline will lead the class. All materials will be provided. Space is limited to 12 people age 16 and up.

During Pumpkin Pandemonium on Monday, Oct. 18, at 6 p.m., individuals may bring one or more pumpkins to the library to utilize provided embellishments and decorative materials, including melted crayons, to decorate their pumpkin. No pumpkins will be carved. Space is limited.

Library Grounds Fall Cleanup Day will take place on Saturday, Oct. 23, from 10 a.m. to noon. The day will offer an opportunity to prepare the grounds for winter by clearing out any spent plants while also readying for the spring by planting daffodil bulbs in memory of volunteer Donna Little. People of all ages are welcome, but individuals under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers should bring gardening gloves; everything else will be provided.
