Columbia Library Sets Virtual Reading Program

Columbia Public Library, 24 S. Sixth St., Columbia, is offering a virtual Summer Reading Program.

For the past 12 years, library staff have prepared sign-up sheets, printed logs, and given children their ticket packs. Now, the program is moving into a paperless format. Using Beanstack, an application that is available for both computers and handheld devices, children will track their minutes, complete their activities, and receive their prizes.

Beanstack went live on June 20. Parents may use it to register their children.

To use Beanstack on a desktop computer or laptop, readers may visit https://lancasterlibraries.beanstack.org and select the Register an Individual or a Family button. In order to complete their information, parents or caregivers may fill out the Adult screen. All family members can be accessed with one log-in. After registration, they will be directed to Current Challenges. They may select the Log Reading and Activities button and begin logging their minutes and activities.

To use Beanstack on a handheld device, readers may download the Beanstack Tracker app from GooglePlay or the App Store, search for their library by typing "Lancaster" and choosing the bottom selection, tap "Sign Up," create an account, add readers (children), follow the prompts to complete their registration, tap "Discover" and register for Challenges, and touch the "+" icon to log reading minutes and activities. The app allows users to track statistics and badges.

Readers with questions may email info@lancasterlibraries.org and allow 24 to 48 hours for a response.

Summer programs will also be held virtually.
