The Eastern Lancaster County (ELANCO) Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, will offer a variety of programs and activities to the community. Most events are free but require advance registration. To register, readers may stop by the circulation desk at the library, call 717-354-0525, or visit http://www.elancolibrary.org. The library will close at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, for the New Holland Parade.
Several story time programs will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Preschool Story Time, designed for children ages 3 to 5, will be held on Tuesdays. Baby Story Time, open to babies from birth to age 2, will be offered on Thursdays. Friday Frolic for Toddlers will be offered on Fridays and is open to walking toddlers ages 1 to 3 and will be followed by Stay and Play Friday at 11 a.m.
Therapy dogs will visit the library at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5. The family event is open to all ages, and children are invited to improve their reading skills by reading aloud to a therapy dog from K-Pets.
Duplo Free Play will be offered on Thursdays from 3 to 5 p.m. for children ages 1 to 5. Children are invited to drop in for a free building time with Duplos and Mega Bloks.
Parachute Play will be held on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 1 to 3. The program will feature activities to develop gross motor skills, learn to work together, and encourage imaginative play.
Several programs will be offered to teenagers in grades six to 12. Teen Tuesdays will provide an opportunity for teenagers to hang out at the library from 3 to 5 p.m. Teen After-Hours: Fandom will take place on Oct. 5 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and will feature cosplay, snacks, and games. The Teen Art Club will meet on Monday, Oct. 14, at 6:30 p.m., and attendees should bring their own sketchbook. The Anime Club will meet on Thursday, Oct. 31, at 3 p.m., and snacks will be provided.
Dungeons and Dragons Club, for youths age 10 and older, will be held on Thursdays, Oct. 3 and 17, at 6:30 p.m. The Readers' Roundtable Book Discussion will meet in the downstairs board room at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, to discuss "The Invisible Thread" by Laura Schroff. The activity is open to individuals age 16 and older.
Chair Zumba will be offered for people age 16 and up on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 10:30 a.m. The free activity combines strength and resistance training with dance moves, and participants use a chair as their dance partner. This class will be taught by certified instructor Carcy Vreeland. People of all fitness levels are welcome. Participants must sign a liability release form, which is available online or at time of the class.
Chemistry With Lancaster Science Factory will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 14 and is open to students in kindergarten through grade eight. Crafternoon will be held on Oct. 14 from noon to 3 p.m. and is open to children age 3 and older. The Lego Creation Club will meet on Oct. 14 at 6:30 p.m.
The Hooks and Needles Yarn Crafting Club will meet on Oct. 14 at 6:30 p.m. and is open to people of all ages and skill levels.
Winter Wellness With Essential Oils will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct., 16, at 6:30 p.m. and is open to individuals age 16 and older. Preregistration is required, and space is limited. There is a fee to attend.
Block Party - Preschool STEM Event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 6:30 p.m. and is open to children ages 3 to 6. Explore to Learn - Technology and Coding will be offered to students in kindergarten to grade six on Monday, Oct. 28, at 6:30 p.m.
Mandala Painting, for people age 16 and up, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 19, from noon to 2 p.m. Space is limited, and registration is required for this event. There is a materials fee, payable at the door. Wendy from Inspire Me Design Co. will lead participants step by step in creating a piece of art to take home.
One-on-One Tech Help will be available on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. Free technical help will be provided with any device, tablet, or computer. Registration is requested. Walk-ins are welcome, but are not guaranteed an appointment.
Pumpkin Painting will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21. Space is limited. Pumpkins will be provided to children and teenagers under age 19.
The library's 2019 Auction Gala will take place at 6 p.m. on Oct. 17 at The Inn at Leola Village. In addition to hors d'oeuvres, the event will feature silent and live auctions and more.
