Library System Plans Programs

The Dauphin County Library System will offer a variety of virtual programs to the community. Unless otherwise noted, for further details and registration, visit http://www.dcls.org or call 717-234-4961 and select option 6. Registrants will receive a link and additional instruction via email.

Several programs will be offered as part of Money Smart Week. This year's event will focus on the financial effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The programs will include "Tax-Related Fraud and Identify Theft" on Wednesday, April 14, from 2 to 2:15 p.m.; "Managing Personal Finances During COVID-19" on Thursday, April 15, from 2 to 2:15 p.m.; "Housing Protections and Resources" on Friday, April 16, from 1 to 1:15 p.m., for homeowners and renters who are struggling to make payments; and "Tips for Managing Money Ups and Downs" on Saturday, April 17, from 11:30 to 11:45 a.m. Registration is suggested, but not required. Programs on Tuesdays will include Discord Hangouts: Gaming from 3 to 5 p.m. for those ages 13 to 18, Animal Crossing with The Library for youths ages 11 to 18 from 3:30 to 5 p.m., and Family Story Time from 6 to 6:30 p.m. for families with children of all ages.

On Wednesdays, Toddler Story Time, open to children ages 19 to 35 months and their caregivers, will run from 10 to 10:30 a.m., and Virtual Create Lab for children ages 6 to 12 will meet from 4 to 4:45 p.m. The YA Book Club will meet on Wednesdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and is open to teens ages 14 to 17.

Discord Hangouts: Chat will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Thursdays and is open to those ages 13 to 18.

On Fridays, Preschool Story Time will be offered for children ages 3 to 5 and their caregivers from 10 to 10:30 a.m., with Dungeons and Dragons for tweens from 4 to 5 p.m. on Fridays. Dungeons and Dragons for those ages 13 to 18 will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Fridays and from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

Three recurring programs will be held on Mondays: Born to Read, designed for babies up to age 18 months and their caregivers from 9:30 to 9:50 a.m., Cruise Into Kindergarten from 11 to 11:35 a.m. for children ages 4 to 6, and Anime Club, open to teens ages 13 to 18, from 4 to 5 p.m.

During Librarians on Twitch, two of the library system's Youth Services staff members will play popular video games for the first time. Youths ages 11 to 18 are invited to watch on Thursday, April 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. A Twitch account is needed to chat, but is not required for viewing.

Kindergartner for a Day will be offered on Saturday, April 17, from noon to 5 p.m. for people ages 13 to 18. Attendees will color, paint, and play with a modeling compound. Registrants can pick up their "Kindergartner for a Day" bags from any library in the library system. "Despicable Me" will stream from noon until 5 p.m.

A virtual Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court Candidates Forum will be held on Monday, April 19, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Attendees will also have opportunities to ask questions.

Adults may play Animal Crossing: New Horizons on Tuesday, April 20, from 4 to 6 p.m.

A Tea Tasting with Thomas-Lee and Satina Thomas, owners of Thomasina's Health and Wellness, will be offered to adults on Wednesday, April 21, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Registrants will be notified when tea samplers are available at local libraries.

An Author of the Year Book Discussion for adults will occur on Thursday, April 22, from 4 to 5 p.m. It will focus on "The Library Book" by Susan Orlean.

Earth Day Upcycle will take place on Thursday, April 22, from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Attendees will hear a story about the Earth and join in crafts using upcycled materials from around the house. Registrants will be emailed a supply list.

A Spanish Language Conversation Group will meet virtually on Wednesday, April 28, from noon to 1 p.m. Hector Ortiz will facilitate this hour of Spanish conversation. This program is for adults, whether native speakers or beginners.

Knit One, Crochet Too! will gather from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on April 28 and is open to individuals age 15 and older.

The Lawyers in Libraries series will continue with Civil Legal Services: How to Handle Custody Conflicts on Thursday, April 29, from 6 to 7 p.m. This free presentation for adults is offered by attorneys Lyndsay Conforto and Pamela Fleck of MidPenn Legal Services. Participants may ask specific questions.
