The Glatfelter Memorial Library Honors Committee will honor Dr. David Renaut as its first honoree during its inaugural honors program and reception at Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. at the library, 101 Glenview Road, Spring Grove. Renaut will be honored for his many years of dedicated service to the library and Spring Grove community. The public is invited.
Renaut retired from his position as superintendent from the Spring Grove Area School District (SGASD) in July after 39 years as a public school educator. He served 18 of those years at SGASD, where he initially started as principal of New Salem Elementary School in 2001. Prior to coming to Spring Grove, Renaut worked for the Carroll County Public School District and the Southern York County School District. During the span of his career, he taught fifth- and sixth-grade social studies and served as an assistant middle school principal, assistant elementary school principal, elementary principal, and assistant superintendent. In addition, Renaut taught as an adjunct professor at York College of Pennsylvania.
According to Glatfelter Memorial Library manager Ellen Helfrick, the library's newly established honors program will annually recognize a local leader who makes the community a better place to live and learn.
The honors ceremony will include commentary by guest speakers who will pay tribute to Renaut. They include Karen Baum, who is a retired lead teacher from New Salem Elementary School where Renaut served as principal. She currently serves as a school board member for the SGASD. New Salem Elementary School principal Robert Shick will also speak. He was a teacher when he worked with Renaut, who was principal, at Shrewsbury Elementary School in the Southern York County School District. Kathy Eshbach, SGASD assistant elementary principal, worked with him during his roles as the district's assistant superintendent and superintendent. The youngest speaker will be Emma Lewis, a first-grader at Spring Grove Elementary School and his granddaughter. A reception will follow the program.
