Library Will Offer Online Programs

The Eastern Lancaster County Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, remains closed until further notice. All in-person events are canceled during this period; these activities include in-house events, outreach events, and meeting room rentals. Wi-Fi capabilities continue to extend into the parking lot.

All events and services are provided online. Readers may search for "Eastern Lancaster County Library" on Facebook or follow the library on Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter.

No materials will be due before Tuesday, June 16. Patrons are asked to not return their items until the library reopens. No fines are accruing. The library is also unable to accept donations of books or movies at this time.

All electronic resources, including e-book and e-audiobook collections, continue to be available at https://lancasterlibraries.overdrive.com/ and http://online.lancasterlibraries.org/.

A list of at-home learning resources is available for people of all ages at http://www.elancolibrary.org/at-home-learning-resources.

The ELANCO Library administration, board, and staff are working with the Library System of Lancaster County and the Office of Commonwealth Libraries to prepare to phase in limited services. A date for when these services will be available has not been determined.

Patrons whose library card does not work may email Heather at hsmith@elancolibrary.org. Those who do not have a library card are able to apply for one online. They may send an email to the aforementioned address to receive instructions on how to obtain a library card during the closure.

This year's Summer Reading Program for children and teenagers will be completely online so readers can take part wherever they are. By reading and completing activities, participants may earn prizes from local businesses. The theme this summer is "Imagine Your Story," and online reading logs will be available starting on Saturday, June 20. The program will run through Saturday, Aug. 15.

Zumba is an upbeat aerobic fitness program featuring movements inspired by various styles of Latin American dance. No dance experience is necessary.

Carcy Vreeland is offering virtual Zumba classes. Chair Zumba, a seated class, is offered on Tuesdays at 2 p.m., with Zumba offered on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. Certified instructor To sign up, readers may contact Heather at the aforementioned email address or visit https://elancolibrary.org/events/. Participants will receive an email with the Zoom meeting information and password before the event.

Classics with Carla for people of all ages is offered at noon on Mondays and Wednesdays. Ms. Carla will post videos of herself reading classics. She is currently reading "Anne of Green Gables" by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Participants may find the videos on the library's YouTube channel.

Ms. Carla's Corner, geared for younger children, takes place on Thursdays at 1 p.m. Ms. Carla creates a new video every week, with a different theme. Each video has a worksheet or activity that can help readers keep busy at home.

Friday Frolic, geared for 1- to 3-year-olds, is offered on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. on Facebook Live with songs, stories, and fun. Friday Frolic is not recorded.

How to ... Series, geared for adults, is offered on Fridays at 6:30 p.m. Each week, participants discover a new online resource. Videos are available on the library's YouTube channel.

Bedtime Stories with Ms. Heather for people of all ages will take place on Saturday, June 6, at 7:30 p.m. Participants may join the library for a livestreamed story time on its Facebook page as Ms. Heather reads some of her favorite picture books.

Preschool Storytime, geared for 3- to 6-year-olds, is offered on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. The program is livestreamed on Facebook. Preschoolers are invited to enjoy themed books, songs, rhymes, or movement activities.

Virtual Hooks and Needles Craft Club will meet virtually on Monday, June 8, at 6:30 p.m. Participants may knit, crochet, cross-stitch, sew, or work on another project.
