Local Halloween Events Planned

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, plenty of Halloween events and activities have been scheduled this season for local families to enjoy safely.

The Elverson Halloween parade will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 21. The theme this year will be "In This Together." The parade will begin to assemble on South Pine Street at 6 p.m. and begin promptly at 7 p.m.

"It won't be as large of a parade as usual because of COVID, but we will have trucks and some floats, and the Twin Valley High School band is coming," said Esther Prosser, event organizer.

She noted that there will be no food sales, no judges' stand and no awards issues this year. Rather, participants are asked to perform intermittently along the parade route.

Parking for parade participants will be at the Brick Lane Community Church, 52 S. Brick Lane, Elverson. There will be no parking at Elverson Fitness Club, A-Z Urgent Care or Family Medical Center Heritage or along South Pine Street. For more details, readers may visit http://www.elversonboro.org. In the event of rain, the parade will be held on Thursday, Oct. 22.

The Village Library, 207 N. Walnut St., Morgantown, will hold a curbside trick-or-treat event on Monday, Oct. 26, from 3 to 7 p.m. Children will be able to stop by the library to pick up treats and a craft. Masks and social distancing will be required.

"Families can come in the foyer and pick up (the items)," said library director Maria Long. "Staff will be dressed in costume, and we encourage children to dress up as well."

"I will also be giving out some teen kits," Long added. "They can win a $25 gift card if they do all of the activities in the kits."

MCC (Moving Communities to Christ), 4221 Main St., Elverson, will hold a Trunk or Treat on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 1 to 3 p.m. During the event, children will be able to trick-or-treat in a fun and safe environment by traveling from car to car, where vehicle owners will hand out candy or prizes. Children will get to vote on the best decorated vehicle, and the winner will receive a prize. A meal of hot dogs and snacks will be provided.

Volunteers are currently needed to decorate their trunks. Complete details, including registration information, are available at https://movingcommunitiestochrist.org/trunk-or-treat-at-mcc.

The Caernarvon Township Parks and Recreation Committee will present its annual Halloween home decorating contest. Judging will be on Oct. 31 between 7 and 9 p.m. Signups are recommended, but not mandatory.

"We're not doing the Trunk or Treat this year," said Michelle Raymond, a member of board, noting that the event was canceled due to state requirements on large gatherings. However, local residents are encouraged to decorate their homes for the contest. "A lot of people decorate but don't realize there is a contest," she said.

The first-place winner will have his or her name included on a brass plaque in the Caernarvon Township Municipal Building lobby. The winner will also be recognized in the township newsletter and on the township Facebook page.
