Local Library Posts Programs

Adamstown Area Library, 3000 N. Reading Road, Adamstown, is open for curbside pickup. To keep patrons and staff safe, pickup will be arranged by appointment only and will follow social distancing guidelines. Readers may place an order by phone at 717-484-4200, through the electronic form at http://www.adamstownarealibrary.org, or by emailing info@adamstownarealibrary.org. Readers should include their name, phone number, and library card number to identify them for checkout. Five items may be reserved at a time. The book drop is open 24 hours for returns.

The Summer Reading Program will run through Saturday, Aug. 15. For the first time, participants can track their progress online. Readers can sign up at https://lancasterlibrariespa.beanstack.org/reader365.

The library also continues to offer fun daily activities with Miss Jess, live bedtime stories, weekly craft videos for adults and teenagers, and more on its Facebook page @AdamstownAreaLibrary. No Stress with Miss Jess will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at 10 a.m. on Facebook. Videos will be posted on the library's Facebook page at 10 a.m., along with a list of items needed for the next activity.

Adult and Teen Summer Craft will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m. on Facebook. Miss Sharon will share some crafts for adults and teenagers to do this summer.

Craft & Chat for adults will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 6 p.m. on Zoom. Participants should bring a project to work on while they chat about favorite crafts and swap ideas. Social distancing will be implemented. Readers must register to receive the meeting link. A call-in option will also be available.

Virtual Bedtime Stories will be held live every other Wednesday at 6 p.m. on Facebook. Miss Roxanne will read some stories and demonstrate an easy craft people can do from home.

Life Skills will take place on Saturdays at 2 p.m. on Facebook. During the program, Miss Sonya will demonstrate skills like sewing on a button, sorting laundry, and scrambling an egg. The Facebook event page also has past videos and a skills challenge course people can complete at home.

Modern Pop Art Experience and Collage Workshops will be held on Fridays, July 31 and Aug. 7, at 2 p.m. on Facebook. A program will also be held live on Zoom on Friday, Aug. 14, at 2 p.m. Participants will learn how to make their own eye-catching pop art collages in this series by New York artist Michael Albert. Readers must register to receive the meeting link for the live workshop.

Growing a Beanstalk will be offered on July 31 at 10 a.m. on Facebook. Staff from the Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will read "Jack and the Beanstalk," make a recycled newspaper pot, and show participants how to plant beans to grow at home. This event will be recorded and available on Facebook from July 31 through Thursday, Aug 6.

Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania's virtual STEAM Mobile: Master Builders will take place on Monday, Aug. 3, from 10 to 11 a.m. on Zoom. Participants will need paper, a pencil, coloring implements, and building supplies such as LEGOs, plastic cups, paper, and blocks. All children and youths in kindergarten through grade 12 are welcome to participate. Readers must register to receive the meeting link.

Story Time with Hank the Health Hero: Hank's Healthy Smile will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 10 a.m. on Facebook. A related activity PDF will be available to download for those viewing. This event will be posted on Facebook. The program is recommended for children ages 3 to 8.
