Area Resident Offers Free Coffee To Visitors
Jason Burkholder loves Lititz. "I live in Lititz," said Burkholder. "I am a big proponent of Downtown Lititz. I volunteer when I can with Venture Lititz, and I know a bunch of the shop owners."
Now Burkholder is looking to share his love of Lititz by inviting residents from the area and beyond to visit the town on the second Saturday of each month and enjoy a free cup of coffee ... on him. "It occurred to me that we have Second Friday and maybe we can make Second Saturday a thing, (too)," said Burkholder, who ran his idea by Holly DeKarske, executive director of Venture Lititz, before moving forward. Next, Burkholder pitched the concept to Dosie Dough, a family-owned baking establishment at 45 S. Broad St., Lititz.
"I reached out to Amy Lloyd at Dosie Dough and said, 'What do you think?' She thought it was a great idea," he shared. The offer for a free coffee is good at Dosie Dough all day each second Saturday.
Donna Felton, Venture Lititz board member, created a Second Saturday logo including a shopping bag and a cup of coffee. Burkholder had the logo, which also includes the words "Support Lititz" and "Shop Dine Stay Local," printed on a cardboard coffee cozy, along with a request for those who receive free coffee to go shopping after enjoying their java. "It was my idea, but it turned into a team effort," noted Burkholder.
Burkholder is a Realtor with Weichert Realtors, located in Manheim Township, but to him it seemed natural to promote the town where he lives. "The whole goal is to get people to downtown Lititz," he said. "We have all these awesome shops, but if you're just driving through in your car, you never see some of what they offer." He encourages Lititz residents and others well beyond the borough limits to visit. "Come into town and grab a coffee and stick your head into some stores and see what you like," said Burkholder, who lauded the Lititz Springs Park as the heart of the town, but noted the green space is only the beginning. "There's so much to do," he said.
Burkholder has already gauged resident response to the effort. "People love it," he said. "I plan to do it for this year, and I will continue for years to come."
