Lower Dauphin Students Recognized

Three students were recently recognized as part of the Do the Right Thing program.

The April honoree was Londonderry Elementary School first-grader Aidric Woodall. When he heard about a scary situation, he knew to tell an adult, both at school and at home.

Ashley Jirek, an eighth-grader honored in May, was nominated by two different Lower Dauphin Middle School teachers - Kristin Gibbs, a special education teacher, and Nic Amici, a health and physical education teacher. In their nominations, they commented on Ashley's kindness and compassion in helping students with special needs during gym class. They said that Ashley was patient and helpful while teaching the correct mechanics of serving a volleyball and spent time teaching various steps of the sport. The teachers said that those whom Ashley help increased their effort level in physical education class.

South Hanover Elementary School fifth-grader Jackie Powell was also honored in May. Jackie was recognized for voluntarily helping out on the school playground when she saw a need to spruce things up.

Each of these three students received a gift card, a Do the Right Thing T-shirt and certificate, and a Subway coupon. The program sponsors were Fulton Bank in April and Penn State Health in May.

The Do the Right Thing program recognizes students in the Lower Dauphin community who have distinguished themselves through their accomplishments, attitude, or outstanding efforts. Any adult can nominate a child. For more information, contact Angela Durantine at adurantine@ldsd.org.
