Luther Acres, a Luthercare community located at 600 E. Main St., Lititz, will offer a variety of courses for its fall 2019 "reDiscover a World of Possibilities" program. All courses are open to the greater community. Most courses are held on the Luther Acres campus and have varying fees for campus residents and nonresidents. The purpose of the "reDiscover" program is to provide an opportunity to learn new information, be creative, be enriched, and have fun.
The courses are held one day a week, and some cover a four- or eight-week period.
"Museums of Lancaster County" will offer an opportunity to visit Lancaster County museums. The first trip, on Monday, Oct. 21, will be to the Christiana Underground Railroad Center at Historic Zercher's Hotel. A bus will depart Luther Acres at about 8:45 a.m. and leave the site to return at noon. The second trip will feature a ride on the Strasburg Rail Road and a visit to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania on Tuesday, Oct. 29. A bus will depart Luther Acres at about 11:45 a.m. and leave the site to return at 3:30 p.m.
"Yoga for Healthy Aging" will be taught by Michele Zerbey, a certified Kripalu yoga teacher, with sessions on Thursdays from Oct. 3 to Nov. 7 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
"Fantastic Fall Pumpkin and Squash" will take place on Wednesdays, Oct. 9 to 30, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Chef Cary Wells from FLIK Lifestyles, Luthercare's culinary partner, will use pumpkins and squash to create a variety of dishes. Attendees will receive the recipes and enjoy a taste of the final product.
"Ballroom Dancing for Beginners" will be offered on Wednesdays, Oct. 2 to Nov. 20, from 6 to 7 p.m. Instructors Gregg and Amber Stief of Stief Performance and Event Services will cover the five major ballroom dances: waltz, foxtrot, rhumba, cha-cha, and swing. Couples and singles of all ages and abilities are welcome.
The Stiefs will also instruct "Ballroom Dancing - Beyond Basics," set for Wednesdays, Oct. 2 to Nov. 20, from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. This class will move slightly faster than the beginner class.
The Luther Acres Therapy Department will present "Staying Vertical" on Wednesdays, Oct. 9 and 16, from 2 to 3 p.m. Attendees will learn the common causes of falls and how to reduce their risk of falling. The first session will explore risk factors and more, and the second session will include a multi-station clinic on falls and a balance screening.
