Any person who sews, knits, or crochets garments with wool is invited to enter the Pennsylvania Make It With Wool contest. The contest will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5, at the PA Preferred Banquet Hall at the Farm Show Complex, 2300 N. Cameron St., Harrisburg. Entry paperwork is due by Wednesday, Aug. 21.
Competition divisions are Pre-Teen, age 12 and under; Junior, ages 13 to 16; Senior, ages 17 to 24; Adult, age 25 and over; and Made for Others, in which the creator and the model will present the ensemble. Ages are as of Jan. 1.
Contestants will model the garments. In addition, the garments will be "flat-judged." All entrants will receive a piece of wool as a prize. Winners in each division will receive additional prizes.
The Junior and Senior winners will each receive an expenses-paid trip to the national Make It With Wool contest in January 2020, which will be held in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The contest encourages the use of wool or other animal fibers. All fabrics or yarns used for the main part of the garment must be 60% or more animal fiber, such as wool, alpaca, or mohair. Trims and linings may be other fibers.
Pre-entry is required. There is an entry fee, plus a wool testing fee per yarn or fabric used. The event is supported by the Pennsylvania Sheep and Wool Growers Association.
