MCCL Posts Choir Auditions

The Mennonite Children's Choir of Lancaster (MCCL) is currently scheduling auditions for the 2022-23 choir year. MCCL provides choral education for a total of over 100 singers in kindergarten through grade 12, with both auditioned and non-auditioned options.

Prospective singers for the performing choirs should request a 20-minute audition time slot by completing the form at http://www.mennonitechildrenschoir.org/join/register/. Audition dates are Tuesday, May 10; Wednesday, May 18; and Wednesday, June 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. Auditions will include matching pitch, singing in tune, using the head voice, maintaining a melodic line, and singing one prepared piece of music.

The performing choirs are Carol Choir, for those in grades two to five; Concert Choir, grades six to eight; and Chamber Choir, grades nine to 12. The choirs rehearse on Tuesday evenings from late August through early May and share a concert series in early December and in the spring.

The choirs are led by artistic director Rosemary Blessing and director Sarah Wingard. Both Blessing and Wingard have degrees in music and extensive experience working with young voices. MCCL prioritizes choral education at all levels with instructors who are passionate about and skilled at working with developing voices. Singers in MCCL come from public school, homeschool, and private school backgrounds and represent more than 10 church denominations.

MCCL also offers two non-auditioned programs to help youths develop vocal skills. These programs are Prelude Music, for children in kindergarten through first grade, and Choristers, for students in grades two through eight. Classes are held on Tuesday evenings from September through November and again in February through April.

The mission of MCCL is "training children and youth to glorify Jesus Christ through excellent choral singing." This program of Lancaster Mennonite School is open to all children and youths in the community. For more information, visit http://www.mennonitechildrenschoir.org.
