Metzinger Named Assistant Principal

At its June 24 special meeting, the board of Conestoga Valley School District appointed Rachel Metzinger to become the Conestoga Valley High School (CVHS) assistant principal on July 1. Metzinger is taking over the role from Shalana Coleman.

Metzinger had been the RtII coordinator for CVHS since 2015. Prior to that, she worked as a life skills teacher at CVHS from 2009 to 2015. She also served as a special education adjunct teacher at Gwynedd Mercy University from 2008 to 2009 and as a district learning support teacher at Souderton Area School District from 2005 to 2009.

While in her role as RtII coordinator, Metzinger developed curriculum and intervention programs for Tier 1 through Tier 3 students in ninth through 12th grades, resulting in an average growth of 22 percent in RtII supports and services since the 2015-16 school year. She also coordinated the CV Mentor program for more than 150 students and 70 faculty and staff members to include staff and student mentorship, peer tutoring, an online academic class and a senior scholarship award. Metzinger is also involved with many district extracurricular events, having served as a SADD co-adviser, unified track coach, Link Crew coordinator, and junior varsity basketball coach.

Metzinger earned a bachelor's degree in special education from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania and a master's degree in reading from Gwynedd Mercy University. She also holds a Special Education Supervisor Certification and a Principalship and Administration Certification from Penn State University.
