Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, will offer a variety of programming to the community. All library programs are free, unless stated otherwise, and require preregistration. Readers may register for all programs at http://www.mslibrary.org or by calling 717-653-1510. Online registration is encouraged.
Members of the public should continue to wear a mask when visiting the library and attending indoor programs. Returned items should continue to be placed in the outside book drop and will be quarantined for seven days, during which time fines will not accrue.
An Earth Day Clean-up will take place on Saturday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are invited to help clean up the flowerbeds around the library.
The Friends of the Library will hold a community yard sale on Saturday, May 1, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Individuals may rent a space for a set fee to sell personal items or promote a small business. Forms are available at the front desk.
The Friends' annual used book sale will take place on Thursday, June 17, through Saturday, June 19, in the gymnasium at Kraybill Mennonite School, 598 Kraybill Church Road, Mount Joy. Details can be found on the aforementioned website.
All children's and family programs will be in-person only. Registration is required, and space is limited.
Story Time with Miss Jan, which includes activities based on a weekly theme, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Cap the Gap, designed for children ages 5 to 7, will explore a variety of topics of interest to young readers on Monday, April 19, at 10:30 a.m.
STEM in a Sack will be offered at 10:30 a.m. and again at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13. Children age 7 and older will receive a bag with the materials for that day's project. Participants will learn about the science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) element involved and then use the materials in the bags to do a project.
Fun Family Bingo for family members age 7 and older will be held on April 13 at 7 p.m. Winners will receive books for prizes.
History Mystery will offer the opportunity to learn about a mystery related to a real event in history. The event will be offered on Tuesday, April 20, at 10:30 a.m. and again at 1:30 p.m. Participants must be at least age 7.
Fun Fort Friday will take place when the library is closed on Friday, April 9, from 5 to 6 p.m. Participants will build a reading fort among the shelves and tables and should bring blankets or sheets, a flashlight, and a beverage. The library will offer a snack and clips for hanging sheets.
A variety of programs and clubs will also be offered for adults. The Northwest Book Club will meet on Wednesday, April 14, at 6 p.m. The book to be discussed is "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. The club meets on the second Wednesday of each month.
A Gathering of Artists Club will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21. Artists may bring their current project to the library to receive feedback and work in the company of others.
The Joyful Stitchers Cross-Stitch Club will gather from 9:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, April 17. Any artist who likes to create in the company of others is encouraged to attend.
Closely Knit will meet at 1 p.m. on Mondays, April 12 and 26. Knitters and crocheters are invited to socialize while working on individual projects.
Make-It Monday - "Beaded Jewelry with Maria Hershey" will take place on April 26 at 6 p.m. Hershey of Hershey Pottery will show participants how to create two adjustable beaded cord necklaces that can be worn singly or layered together. The class is free, but space is limited, and preregistration is necessary.
