Mills Post Open House

The mills of southern York County and northern Harford County, Md., will celebrate the heritage of milling on Saturday and Sunday, June 12 and 13, by hosting their sixth area-wide open house. Four sites will participate; admission is free. This event is part of a broader celebration sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Society for the Preservation of Old Mills.

At Muddy Creek Forks Roller Mills, the mill and grain elevator will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 12 and from 1 to 5 p.m. on June 13. The A. M. Grove Store will also be open, and motor car trains will offer excursions. The mill is located at the village of Muddy Creek Forks, 1258 Muddy Creek Forks Road, Airville. New Park Wind Engines, 290 Woolen Mill Road, New Park, will be open for tours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 12 and from 1 to 4 p.m. on June 13. This site features two open-geared Aermotor power mills and a replica horizontal wind turbine. To learn more, visit http://www.newparkwindengine.com.

The Eden Mill Nature Center and Park, 1617 Eden Mill Road, Pylesville, Md., will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 12 and from 1 to 4 on June 13. Eden Mill includes an intact dam and three generations of milling equipment, as well as generators from the site's later use as a power plant. Wallace-Cross Mill, 15759 Cross Mill Road, Felton, will be open from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on June 12 and 13. Tour guides will be available to explain the mill's history, operate the water-powered equipment, and answer questions. Attendees may pack a lunch to enjoy beside the stream.
