Mountville Fire Company No. 1 has announced the return of the Mountville Days Carnival at Froelich Park, 350 W. Main St., Mountville. The event is planned for Wednesday, May 19, and Thursday, May 20, from 6 to 9 p.m., as well as Friday, May 21, and Saturday, May 22, from 5 to 11 p.m.
Following the cancellation of the carnival last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the organizers hope to see crowds return to support the fire company. Although the carnival was canceled, volunteer firefighters on the carnival committee organized a food truck drive-through.
"In two weeks, we went from full-on carnival mode to a food truck drive-through," said public information officer and event committee member Peter Taraborelli. "We put in so many hours to make that happen on top of volunteering, but we had a great turnout. The community came out to support us."
Taraborelli noted that the committee members are working closely with several local legislators to make sure they are doing everything they can to follow COVID-19 guidelines. Sanitizing stations will be placed at regular intervals around the event. Regularly sanitized rides will be provided by Penn Valley Shows.
"Penn Valley Shows is a great partner to have," stated Taraborelli. "They maintain their rides and make it a mission to restore a ride every year by repainting it and replacing the lights."
There will also be games and 18 food vendors, one of which will have pet food. A fireworks show is planned at dusk on May 21. In the event of inclement weather, the firework show will take place on May 22.
"Our hope is that we can offer a safe, fun, and unique way for the community to come out and support our all-volunteer station," said Taraborelli. "This event is the largest annual fundraising event of the year for Mountville Fire Company, and we are thrilled that it is back."
Parking will be behind Froelich Park just off Ruby Street. Fire department members will direct parking traffic.
