Museum Offers Quilt Exhibit

May 01, 2019 -

Winters Heritage House Museum, 47 E. High St., Elizabethtown, invites the public to enjoy an exhibit of antique through modern-day quilts on display during its 28th annual May Quilt Show. The display will open on Wednesday, May 1, and will run through Friday, May 31, during museum hours and by appointment.

The museum's quilt committee aims to find different quilts to display each year. The show will include approximately 30 quilts, and each locally made quilt's history and process information will be presented alongside it.

One quilt that will be on display was made for and exhibited at the 1939 World's Fair in New York City. Created by Hummelstown resident Emma Hoerner, the World's Fair Quilt was previewed by 842 local people before being sent off to New York City. The quilt stitching includes more than 100 hand-sewn interlocking gears.

The museum is open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Groups are encouraged to call ahead and schedule a private guided tour. Donations are appreciated. Parking is available in the lot behind the museum. For more information, readers may contact the museum at 717-367-4672.
