Museum Opens Exhibit On Horses

Jul 09, 2019 -

The National Civil War Museum, 1 Lincoln Circle at Reservoir Park, Harrisburg, has announced an addition to its temporary exhibit space, "Boots and Saddles: Horses in the Civil War."

The exhibit examines the employment of horses and their indispensability during the war. The need for horses during the four-year war never slackened, and these equines performed a variety of tasks, from pulling supply wagons and ambulances to carrying scouts behind enemy lines and cavalry troopers in desperate charges. Thousands of horses died in the line of duty during the war. Some died on the battlefield, while others starved in the cold of winter or were ridden to death in the heat of summer.

The exhibit will run through Sunday, June 7, 2020, and is included in the cost of regular museum admission. For more information, readers may visit http://www.nationalcivilwarmuseum.org or call 717-260-1861.
