Winters Heritage House Museum, 47 E. High St., Elizabethtown, will present a colorful exhibit of antique through modern-day quilts from Wednesday, May 4, through Tuesday, May 31. The 31st annual exhibit may be viewed during museum hours and by appointment.
Each year, the museum's Quilt Committee gathers and display quilts from community sources, with each locally made quilt's history and process information presented alongside it. The museum's log rooms, dating to the mid-1700s and early 1800s, are the backdrop for the show.
This year, over 25 vintage and modern quilts from the community will be on display, including a featured collection of antique and contemporary interpretations of the Victorian crazy quilt. Hand-quilted items will also be available for purchase in the museum's store.
There is a general admission fee per person, and these funds will benefit the museum's education programs. Groups are encouraged to schedule in advance for a guided tour and group admission rate. For more details, contact the museum at 717-367-4672 or winters-hh@elizabethtownhistory.org.
Local quilt historian Barbara Garrett will visit the museum on Saturday, May 21, to provide quilt sharing programs from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Attendees may bring quilts they would like to know more about. Participants may drop by to receive information about their quilt, or they may stay for the entire program to view all the shared quilts. Garrett has been active in numerous county documentation projects in Pennsylvania for the last 35 years and acts as a consultant for several projects. There is a fee per person to bring one quilt, with a lower fee for additional quilts. Space is limited, and early registration is requested. To register, contact the museum at the previously mentioned phone number or email address.
