Museum Posts Temporary Closure

The National Civil War Museum will close to the public for two weeks in February to perform scheduled maintenance and technical upgrades. The museum will be closed from Monday, Feb. 7, through Friday, Feb. 18. It plans to reopen on Saturday, Feb. 19, in time for the annual Community Free Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will resume its regular hours of operation.

In 2001, The National Civil War Museum opened its doors with state-of-the-art exhibits and technology, and much of this equipment has reached the end of its life cycle. Planning for this technology upgrade began in 2020 with an evaluation of the museum's audiovisual equipment. This upgrade will repurpose existing equipment and upgrade outdated equipment to enhance the visitor experience and simplify operation and maintenance. Additionally, the museum will use this time to deep clean the galleries and update some permanent and temporary exhibits in the museum.

Upgrades will be made possible through donations given by individuals and organizations who responded to the Gallery Upgrade Appeal. The appeal is an ongoing fundraising initiative to provide maintenance and updates to the museum's permanent and temporary galleries.
