Museum Reopens With New Exhibit

Susquehanna Art Museum, 1401 N. Third St., Harrisburg, reopened to the public on June 9 with a new exhibition, "Creating Joy: Art Inspired by Music," in the Beverlee and Bill Lehr Gallery. The museum had been closed in accordance with the stay-at-home orders. Upon its reopening, Susquehanna Art Museum launched a pay-what-you-wish initiative that will feature admission on a donation basis through Sunday, Aug. 30.

Additionally, the museum has new hours that will accommodate visitors who wish to maintain significant social distance from others. On Tuesdays through Fridays, the museum will be open by appointment only from 10 a.m. to noon and on Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. These appointments, for groups up to 10, will last for one hour and must be scheduled 48 hours in advance at http://www.susquehannaartmuseum.org/visits. Regular hours of operation are Tuesdays through Fridays from noon to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.

Masks are required for visitors. All museum staff and volunteers will wear masks, and temperature checks will be done at the beginning of each shift. The museum will continue deep cleaning each Monday with frequent and regular sanitizing being performed in all high touch areas, such as door handles and restroom facilities.

"Creating Joy: Art Inspired by Music" is a juried exhibition comprising works by 34 artists. The pieces featured in "Creating Joy" provide unique perspectives on the joyful relationship between music and art both visually and conceptually. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own listening devices to enjoy a special playlist that accompanies the exhibition.

Free parking is available to museum-goers in the lot behind the museum at Calder and James streets. For more information, readers may visit http://www.susquehannaartmuseum.org or call 717-233-8668.
