Beginning Saturday, April 6, the Pennsylvania State Police Museum, 187 E. Hersheypark Drive, Hershey, will be open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. These hours will be in addition to its weekday hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On April 6, the museum will present a program from 10 a.m. to noon on the origins and evolution of the State Police Force from 1905 to 1937. Topics to be covered will include, but not be limited to, the infamous Coal and Iron Police, the roles played by Teddy Roosevelt and M.S. Hershey, the deaths of the first two troopers killed in the line of duty, Omar the Belgian shepherd Medal of Valor recipient, and why the Pennsylvania State Police decided to pick Hershey as the place to locate recruit training. Part of the program will also include a tour of the museum at no charge.
The program is free to the public and will be held in the museum's all-purpose room. Space is limited to 60 attendees, and registration is required by contacting the museum at 717-534-0565 or psphemc2@gmail.com.
