Memorial Park will once again be filled with the sounds of music as the Mount Joy Chamber of Commerce hosts its Music in Memorial Park concert series after canceling last year's concerts due to the pandemic.
"We are so excited to be able to offer music to the community this year," said Kerry Meyers, Chamber executive director. "It's a great way to give back to the community, and it's also a great way to promote our Chamber members."
The music series, held in the park at 101 Marietta Ave., will run on four consecutive Sundays from July 25 through Aug. 15. Food will be available starting at 5 p.m., and the concerts will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
On July 25, the Kracker Beez will kick off the series. The group is a returning favorite, Meyers said, noting it plays classic rock and pop music. Food for this concert will be provided by the Mount Joy Rotary Club.
On Aug. 1, the Celtic Martins will entertain. The band performs Irish and American fiddle tunes. Food will be provided by the Mount Joy Rotary Club.
On Aug. 8, the Chamber will welcome Rampart Street Ramblers, a Dixieland jazz band. Food for the concert is still to be determined.
Stu Huggens and the Honkytonk Heroes will wrap up the concert series on Aug. 15. The band performs country and Americana music. That evening, the Chamber will provide free hot dogs, snacks, ice cream, toppings and water to concert attendees.
Meyers emphasized that many members and friends of the Chamber help to cover the costs of the concert series, including Nancy Shonk, who will provide the hot dogs; Mount Joy Gift & Thrift, which will provide the rolls; Clair and Mary Ginder, who will donate the ice cream; Olde Square Inn, which will provide hot dog toppings and ice cream toppings; and Giant, which will donate the water. The concert series is also made possible by the support of Diamond Chamber Members townlively.com, which is sponsoring the July 25 and Aug. 1 concerts, and Members 1st Federal Credit Union, which is sponsoring the Aug. 8 and 15 events. Chamber directories will be available at the concert series, and tickets will be sold for the Chamber's Saturday, Aug. 21, chicken barbecue.
The concert series offers a chance for the community to come out to the park and experience a fun evening. "We have a great lineup of bands and all different kinds of music, which is always my goal," Meyers said. "Just sitting in the park is a beautiful way to spend an evening because it's such a pretty park, but if you can come out and hear music, visit with neighbors and friends and have some great food, that's even better."
