Nature Center Slates Programs

Eden Mill Nature Center, 1617 Eden Mill Road, Pylesville, Md., will offer a variety of programs in September. There is a cost per person, with a discount for members. Preregistration is required by contacting edenmillnaturecenter@gmail.com or visiting http://www.edenmill.org.

The Preschool Nature Series will be offered on Tuesdays, Sept. 3, 10, and 24, from 10 to 11:15 a.m. The program is designed for children ages 2 to 5 and will feature a different topic at each session. Programs will include nature games and activities, stories, crafts, and hikes exploring the landscape.

Reptile and Amphibian Search will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The program is open to individuals age 5 and older. Participants will explore the slimy and scaly world of amphibians and reptiles. Children under age 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

Nature Storybook Art for Homeschoolers Session 1 will be held on Wednesdays, Sept. 11 to 25, from 12:45 to 2:45 p.m. Each activity builds new awareness about books, illustrators, and their art techniques as each illustrator is paired with a book and presented to the child artist for an art activity of creative value. Art techniques include drawing, painting, collage, and crafting/constructing.

Child and Adult Paint Afternoon will be offered from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27. The program is open to children ages 5 to 12. Participants will create a "Sunflowers in Vase" painting on canvas and learn how to use tools such as acrylic paints, canvas, brushes, as well as painting and mixed media techniques. Child and adult will each complete a 14-by-18-inch acrylic painting on canvas with instruction provided throughout the event.
