Nicotine Vaping Program Launched

The Byrnes Health Education Center announced the launch of new health education programming within its Drug Education subject area focusing on the youth vaping epidemic, titled "Clear the Air." From 2012-15, daily nicotine vaping has seen a 900% growth in use. Currently, an estimated 5.3 million teens use e-cigarettes.

In response to this important and relevant health topic, "Clear the Air" provides 60 minutes of preventative health education content targeted to students in grades six through 12. Designed to increase awareness of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) and their dangerous link to combustible cigarettes, this program also provides a look at the harmful effects that vaping has on the nervous system, adolescent brain development, and the body as a whole.

Not only is this an important health topic for schools and organizations for student education, it also provides a great opportunity for families to use this programming as a starting point for important discussions at home.
