The North Museum of Nature and Science in Lancaster planned to host its fifth annual Cosmic Bash this spring. Due to the coronavirus, the museum faced the decision of whether to cancel or reschedule the event, which supports its annual budget for STEM education in the community.
The event is the largest fundraiser of the museum's year. Additionally, other large revenue sources for the museum are affected, as the museum is closed to the public and schools are not in session.
Working within the coronavirus restrictions, the museum decided to host the fundraiser, dubbed Bash the Pandemic, online. On Saturday, May 16, beginning at 5 p.m., ticket holders will be able to enjoy the gala from home, staycation style. The evening will include both virtual and real-life elements, including a contact-free meal delivery from former White House chef John Moeller from the Greenfield Restaurant.
The evening will begin with a "LIVE! From the Red Carpet" segment and end with a night of dancing. Leaders from Lancaster's business and civic communities will also take part in the event, which will include a silent auction. Also featured will be a small business segment co-hosted by FIG's Deborah Brandt and Marshall Snavely of Lancaster City Alliance. There will also be a VIP screening of the national PBS short-form documentary about the North Museum hosted by actor Laurence Fishburne.
Event tickets and sponsorship opportunities are still available. For more information, including how to register, readers may visit http://www.northmuseum.org/bash-the-pandemic or call 717-358-4383.
