Online Library Programs Scheduled

The Eastern Lancaster County Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, building is closed until further notice. Its top priority is the safety and well-being of patrons and staff. Because of the current library closures, it has instituted many changes to its library services. All in-person events have been canceled until further notice. No materials will be due before Tuesday, June 16. Patrons are asked to not return their items until the library reopens. The library is also unable to accept any movie or book donations at this time.

All events and services are provided online. All events and activities can be found on the library's Facebook page, as well as on Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter.

All electronic resources, including e-book and e-audiobook collections, will continue to be available at https://lancasterlibraries.overdrive.com/ and http://online.lancasterlibraries.org/.

Any patron whose library card does not work may email Heather at hsmith@elancolibrary.org. Patrons without library cards may apply for one online. For instructions on how to obtain a library card during the closure, readers may contact Heather at the aforementioned email address.

Children of all ages are invited to participate in the Summer Reading Program from Saturday, June 20, to Saturday, Aug. 15. By reading and doing activities, participants may earn prizes to local businesses. The theme this year is "Imagine Your Story." This summer the program will be entirely virtual, including programs and reading logs. More information is forthcoming.

The library aims to provide resources and tools for lifelong learners of all ages. It has compiled a list of things to do, learn, and enjoy while patrons are at home. For more information, readers may visit http://www.elancolibrary.org/at-home-learning-resources.

I Can Read, for children in kindergarten and first grade, will run through Monday, June 1. For parents whose child just learned how to read, they may pick any book and video record their child reading. To submit a video, readers may email cbarrows@elancolibrary.org; it will be posted on the library's Facebook page. Any still photos that are submitted will be featured on the library's I Can Read board when it reopens.

To celebrate Get Caught Reading Month through Sunday, May 31, the library is collecting "caught reading" photos of community members of all ages. Readers are invited to submit photos of themselves or family members reading by emailing hsmith@elancolibrary.org, and the photos will be posted on the library's Instagram and Facebook pages.

Classics with Carla for people of all ages is offered at noon on Mondays and Wednesdays. Ms. Carla will post videos of herself reading classics. She is currently reading "Anne of Green Gables" by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Participants may find the videos on the library's YouTube channel.

Ms. Carla's Corner, geared for younger children, takes place on Thursdays at 1 p.m. Ms. Carla creates a new video every week, with a different theme each week. Each video has a worksheet or activity that can help readers keep busy at home.

Friday Frolic, geared for 1- to 3-year-olds, is offered on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. on Facebook Live with songs, stories, and fun. Friday Frolic is not recorded.

Virtual Dungeons and Dragons will be held via Zoom on Friday, May 29, from noon to 2 p.m. for youths ages 10 to 19. Beginners are welcome, and they may email cbarrows@elancolibrary.org if they need help with building a character sheet. Registration with an email address is required to obtain access. Those who register will receive an email with the Zoom meeting information and password before the event. How to ... Series, geared for adults, is offered on Fridays at 6:30 p.m. Each week, participants discover a new online resource. Videos are available on the library's YouTube channel.

Bedtime Stories with Ms. Heather for people of all ages will take place on Saturday, May 30, at 7:30 p.m. Participants may join the library for a livestreamed story time on its Facebook page as Ms. Heather reads some more of her favorite picture books.

Preschool Storytime, geared for 3- to 6-year-olds, is offered on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. The program is livestreamed on Facebook. Preschoolers are invited to enjoy themed books, songs, rhymes, or movement activities.
