Organization Slates Talk

Not One More - York Chapter will host a talk by author and addictions professional Joel Jakubowski on Monday, Aug. 19. The talk, titled "Addiction: Educating, Equipping, and Empowering," will take place at 7 p.m. at Penn State York's Pullo Center. Penn State York is located at 1031 Edgecomb Ave., York. The event is free and open to the public, and tickets are available at the Pullo Center box office.

Jakubowski's presentation will provide an overview of the drug problem in the U.S., and the talk is designed to help individuals and families, especially those dealing with addicted loved ones, to more clearly understand the nature of addiction. Following the talk, Jakubowski will sell and sign copies of his handbook, titled "We Didn't Raise Them This Way!" The book's purpose is to assist families in managing addictive behaviors.

Jakubowski is currently the executive director for Revelations of Freedom Ministries in Blue Ball. After 20 years of drug addiction, he entered long-term, faith-based treatment in 2003 as a client and graduated in May 2004. He went on to receive his bachelor's degree in behavioral health and addictions studies from Alvernia University, a master's degree in organizational leadership from Clarks Summit University, and his doctoral degree in behavioral health organizational leadership at Grand Canyon University.

Jakubowski is a certified minister, certified recovery specialist, certified intervention professional, and certified alcohol and drug counselor. He is married to Angie, also an addiction professional. They have two sons, Brett and Nathan.
