Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer programs to the community. There is a per-person fee, and activities will take place at the Environmental Center in Lancaster County Central Park, 1 Nature's Way, Lancaster. Additionally, registration and payment are required by noon on the business day before the event. A Night Hike for people of all ages will be offered on Thursday, Aug. 12, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Participants will hike on the Scout Trail, looking and listening for nocturnal animals. The trail is mostly easy, but is moderate in a few places.
Bugs and Black Lights will take place on Saturday, Aug. 14, from 9 to 10 p.m., and people age 8 and up may participate. Attendees will look for silk moths, dobsonflies, hawkmoths, and other insects that are rarely seen during the day but can be found at night using a blacklight.
People age 11 and up may attend Tweens and Teens: Fire-Starting on Tuesday, Aug. 17, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The program will explore fire safety rules, fire building skills, and how to start a fire with a bow and drill, a magnifying glass, a magnesium stick, and other materials. This program is drop-off only. Parents must sign children in when they drop them off for the program.
