The Pennsylvania Association of Community Bankers (PACB) has announced the addition of Jordan Grant as director of government relations. A resident of York County, Grant comes to his new role with PACB following seven years of legislative experience as both an aide and legislative director for Rep. Seth Grove.
Grant's background includes researching and drafting legislation, forming coalitions, advancing legislation, and determining outcomes on various policy objectives. Recently, he helped organize and lead a diverse coalition of law enforcement and religious organizations which resulted in new legislation, Act 1 of 2020, that was passed to combat human trafficking.
The director of government relations serves as a policy advocate at the state and federal levels for PACB, its community banks, their employees, and customers in Pennsylvania to ensure these institutions remain independent, profitable, relevant, and strong. The director monitors legislative and regulatory action, determines its effect on community banks and their consumers, and communicates PACB's support or opposition accordingly.
PACB president and CEO Kevin L. Shivers noted that at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, community banks were quickly enlisted into America's economic recovery because the network necessary to support small businesses and local communities already had been established through existing relationships between community banks and their customers across the country. Community banks across Pennsylvania delivered a large portion of paycheck protection funds to small businesses. Community bankers now have turned their efforts toward federal legislation to simplify the PPP loan forgiveness process for small businesses.
At the state level, community bankers are working on legislation to protect consumers by converting the state Banking Fund and a resolution account to trust funds in order to ensure the continuation of examinations and regulation of financial institutions.
